چکیده
The recent letter to the editor by Bickford et al. [1] discusses the uses of the CO2 affinity coefficient in microporous carbons, bCO2 , and its physical significance. The paper points out the lack of having absolute b values and attempts to give answer to the question of the suitability of the value of bCO2 = 0.35 in microporous carbons. The authors conclude that this cannot be considered a ‘‘classical’’ value and that much more work is needed to clarify its physical significance, in order to maintain the well-deserved popularity of the Dubinin– Radushkevich equation. We welcome the effort of the authors to address – and even challenge – the use of bCO2 to characterize microporous carbons. However, we cannot agree with their conclusions. Firstly, because we feel that the importance and relevance of b has been overestimated in the paper. Secondly, because, on the basis our own research, a suitable classical value of bCO2 near 0.35 appears to exist. Thus, we have reported excellent agreements on the characteristic curves of different carbons, obtained with many couples comparing CO2 and benzene and or N2 adsorption. In all the cases, values near 0.35 for CO2 and 0.33 for N2 have been used. We wish to address the following three issues.

Experimental and Theoretical Study on the CH4 Adsorption by Granular and Microporous Activated Carbon
Adsorbed natural gas (ANG) by Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) has been widely investigated as an alternative to CNG and LNG technologies for storage and transportation of natural gas. In the present work, a theoretical and experimental study was conducted to accurately determine the amount of adsorption of CH4 by GAC. To carry out the experiments, the volumetric method was used up to 4 MPa at c...

CO2 is the main greenhouse gas emitted from the combustion of fossil fuels and is considered a threat in the context of global warming. Carbon capture and storage (CCS) schemes embody a group of technologies for the capture of CO2 from power plants, followed by compression, transport, and permanent storage. Key advances in recent years include the further development of ne...
متن کاملExperimental Investigation and Modeling of Carbon Dioxide Adsorption from Model Flue gas
In this work, the adsorption of carbon dioxide from model flue gas on different adsorbents has been investigated. Using simplified modeling, parameters such as the total mass transfer coefficient and the effective diffusivity have been determined. Experiments were carried out in two sections: firstly, adsorption of pure carbon dioxide on different adsorbents was measured at pressures ranging fr...
متن کاملPreparation of Carbon Molecular Sieves by Chemical Vapor Infiltration of Lignin Based Microporous Carbons
In a previous work we studied the influence of heat treatment on the molecular sieve properties of activated carbons prepared by chemical activation of lignin [1]. The thermal treatment modified the porous structure of the activated carbons, giving rise to solids that separate C6H6 from C6H12, CO2 from CH4 and O2 from N2 with a relative high selectivity. However, the heat treatment drastically ...
متن کاملHyper-parallel tempering Monte Carlo simulations of Ar adsorption in new models of microporous non-graphitizing activated carbon: effect of microporosity.
The adsorption of gases on microporous carbons is still poorly understood, partly because the structure of these carbons is not well known. Here, a model of microporous carbons based on fullerene-like fragments is used as the basis for a theoretical study of Ar adsorption on carbon. First, a simulation box was constructed, containing a plausible arrangement of carbon fragments. Next, using a ne...
