An overview of stomatal development in Arabidopsis thaliana Plant leaves develop in an approximate tip-to-base gradient, with cell division prevalent at the base of the leaf and differentiation

چکیده
The plant stomatal lineage manifests features common to many developmental contexts: precursor cells are chosen from an initially equivalent field of cells, undergo asymmetric and selfrenewing divisions, communicate among themselves and respond to information from a distance. As we review here, the experimental accessibility of these epidermal lineages, particularly in Arabidopsis, has made stomata a conceptual and technical framework for the study of cell fate, stem cells, and cell polarity in plants.

Molecular genetic control of leaf lifespan in plants - A review
Leaf senescence constitutes the last stage of leaf development in plants and proceeds through a highly regulated program in order to redistribution of micro- and macro-nutrients from the senescing leaves to the developing/growing plant organs. Initiation and progression of leaf senescence is accompanied by massive sequential alterations at various levels of leaf biology including leaf morpholog...
متن کاملThe ERECTA gene controls spatial and temporal patterns of epidermal cell number and size in successive developing leaves of Arabidopsis thaliana.
BACKGROUND AND AIMS ERECTA has been identified as a pleiotropic regulator of developmental and physiological processes in Arabidopsis thaliana. Previous work demonstrated a role for ERECTA in the control of compensation between epidermal cell expansion and division in leaves. METHODS In this work, spatial and temporal analyses of epidermal cell division and expansion were performed on success...
متن کاملLocalization and Study of Histochemical Effects
A high capacity for accumulation of Mn was reported for sunflower plants. Localization of excess Mn is therefore of special interest for understanding metal tolerance mechanisms in this species. In this study, structural and histochemical alterations caused by Mn accumulation in leaves were investigated in sunflower (Helianthus annuus L. cv. Azar-ghol) plants grown in nutrient solution. In the ...
متن کاملAsymmetric auxin response precedes asymmetric growth and differentiation of asymmetric leaf1 and asymmetric leaf2 Arabidopsis leaves.
We have analyzed the development of leaf shape and vascular pattern in leaves mutant for ASYMMETRIC LEAVES1 (AS1) or AS2 and compared the timing of developmental landmarks to cellular response to auxin, as measured by expression of the DR5:beta-glucuronidase (GUS) transgene and to cell division, as measured by expression of the cycB1:GUS transgene. We found that the earliest visible defect in b...
متن کاملThe mechanism of cell cycle arrest front progression explained by a KLUH/CYP78A5-dependent mobile growth factor in developing leaves of Arabidopsis thaliana.
The size and shape of leaves are influenced by the progression of the cell cycle arrest front (AF). However, the AF progression with leaf growth has not been characterized quantitatively. Moreover, the mechanism linking AF progression and genetic factors is not fully understood. Recently, it was proposed that a KLUH/CYP78A5 (KLU)-dependent signal acts as a mobile growth factor (MGF) for cell pr...
