Calculated effects of pressure-driven temperature oscillations on heat exchangers in thermoacoustic devices with and without a stack

چکیده
A Lagrangian computational method is used to explore the performance of heat exchangers in conditions of oscillating flow and oscillating pressure relevant to thermoacoustic devices. Pressure oscillations cause temperature oscillations within the working gas. Depending on phase, these ‘‘pressure-driven temperature oscillations’’ can enhance or degrade heat transfer within the exchangers of a thermoacoustic device. © 2004 Acoustical Society of America. @DOI: 10.1121/1.1755238#

Acousto-Refrigerator with an Adjustable Mechanical Resonator (RESEARCH NOTE)
Thermoacoustics describes energy conversion processes, activated by interaction temperature oscillation, accompanying the pressure oscillation in a sound wave, with solid boundaries. In ordinary experience this interaction of sound and heat cannot be observed, because of the very low temperature differences, but under suitable conditions, it can be emphasized and amplified to create remarkable ...
متن کاملOptimization of thermoacoustic engine driven thermoacoustic refrigerator using response surface methodology
Thermoacoustic engines (TAEs) are devices which convert heat energy into useful acoustic work whereas thermoacoustic refrigerators (TARs) convert acoustic work into temperature gradient. These devices work without any moving component. Study presented here comprises of a combination system i.e. thermoacoustic engine driven thermoacoustic refrigerator (TADTAR). This system has no moving componen...
متن کاملConstruction and Performance Characterization of the Looped-Tube Travelling-Wave Thermoacoustic Engine with Ceramic Regenerator
In a travelling wave thermoacoustic device, the regenerator sandwiched between a pair of (hot and cold) heat exchangers constitutes the so-called thermoacoustic core, where the thermoacoustic energy conversion from heat to acoustic power takes place. The temperature gradient along the regenerator caused by the two heat exchangers excites and maintains the acoustic wave in the resonator. The dev...
متن کاملThe Reality of a Small Household Thermoacoustic Refrigerator
This paper discusses the thermoacoustic refrigeration cycle and how it can be applied to real world uses, particularly its use in household refrigeration systems. The commercial viability of this technology is determined by comparing it to a vapour compression system. The paper has two goals: to determine practical applications where thermoacoustic refrigeration may prove a strong rival to curr...
متن کاملNumerical Study of Entropy Generation Within Thermoacoustic Heat Exchangers with Plane Fins
Abstract: In this paper a simplified two-dimensional computational model for studying the entropy generation characteristics of thermoacoustic heat exchangers with plane fins is presented. The model integrates the equations of the standard linear thermoacoustic theory into an energy balance-based numerical calculus scheme. Relevant computation results are the spatial distribution of the time-av...
