The Emission Quanta of Characteristic X Rays.

and give rise to, cells which are more or less removed from their normal places. Thus polar bodies and ectoderm cells may be caused to form at the vegetative pole or at any other point on the surface of the egg instead of at the animal pole; nevertheless the protoplasmic portions of the yolk-containing cells return to the animal pole when centrifuging ceases unless otherwise prevented. In some instances in which centrifuging took place in the two cell stage the normal positions of protoplasm and yolk are regained in one of the cells but not in the other. All such cases indicate that it is difficult but not absolutely impossible to change the polarity of eggs and cleavage cells, and that the persistence of polarity in centrifuged eggs and the restoration of dislocated parts to their normal positions is connected with a somewhat resistent framework of protoplasmic strands which preserve the relative positions of nucleus and centrosphere in the cell axis.

Application of characteristic X-rays to measure linear attenuation coefficient of nano-composites used in shielding
Using of X-rays in different industries and especially in medical application is increasing. In this regard, designing of light and efficient protective material based on polymeric nanocomposites and precise study of the effect of adding nanoparticles with different sizes on the X-ray attenuation is necessary. In this study the epoxy nanocomposites with different percentages of copper oxide nan...
متن کاملPhoton Propagation in Supercritical Magnetic Field
It is pointed, that for the asymptotically strong superSchwinger magnetic field B, exceeding the critical value of Bcr = (mc/eh) = 4.4 · 10 Gauss, the vacuum polarization effects become important not only in the γ-range, but also for softer electromagnetic quanta, including X-rays, optic photons and for electromagnetic waves of radio frequencies. This is a consequence of the linearly growing te...
متن کاملThe Killing of Certain Bacteria by X-rays
Both copper K X-rays and the soft general radiation from a tungsten tube operated at 12 KV kill B. coli and B. aertryke in a linearly exponential fashion. Within the experimental limits, the two organisms appear to be equally sensitive to these radiations. By making use of the fact that X-ray energy is absorbed in quanta, an approximate picture can be formed of the mechanism of this destructive...
متن کاملThe Emission of X-rays by Fission Fragments
Approximately 5% of the ~t -ray transitions in fission fragments are internally converted, giving rise to X-rays. X-ray energies are characteristic of Z, but yields depend strongly and not smoothly on Z and A of the fragments and on time. If these biases can be accepted, X-rays can be used to identify the atomic number of fission fragments. More generally, internal conversion and X-ray emission...
متن کاملDirectional X-ray and gamma emission in experiments in condensed matter nuclear science
The absence of energetic particles commensurate with the energy produced in the Fleischmann–Pons experiment hinders our ability to sort out the microscopic physics involved. Models that we have studied for excess heat are based on the fractionation of the large nuclear quantum to a large number of much smaller quanta. These models predict that it should also be possible to up-convert vibrationa...
متن کاملLinear-Systems Modeling of Parallel Cascaded Stochastic Processes: The NPS of Radiographic Screens with Reabsorption of Characteristic X Radiation
Linear-systems theory can be used to characterize the performance of many imaging systems in terms of signal-transfer and noise-transfer relationships. Using this approach, complex systems are described as serial cascades of simple processes. In a series of articles by Shaw, Rabbani, Van Metter, Barrett, Wagner and others, key processes have been identified and relationships developed which des...
