Thalassinos, N. C., Leese, B., Latham, S. C., and Joplin, G. F. (1970). Archives of Disease in Childhood, 45, 269. Urinary excretion of phosphate in normal children. In 55 normal children on a normal diet, the phosphate and creatnine were estimated in a fasting 2-hour urine collection and in a simultaneous blood sample. In comparison with adults, a high serum phosphate and relatively decreased phosphaturia were found, both of which tended to adult values with the advent of puberty. A correlation between the serum phosphate and the urine phosphate/creatinine ratio (r = + 0-42, p <0 -002) was found. The phosphate excretion index was lower in mid-childhood than in adulthood. The interpretation of any expression of phosphaturia in childhood requires its own age-specific normal range.

Assessment of urinary phosphate excretion in normal and abnormal children.
There is no unanimity about the best way to express renal phosphate excretion for clinical use. Several methods are in use; phosphate clearance; the quotient of the clearances of phosphate and creatinine, which also gives an approximation of tubular phosphate resorbtion; the quotient of renal phosphate and creatinine concentrations in urine. Nordin and Fraser (1956, 1960) have added the phospha...
متن کاملContinuous Adequate Iodine Supplementation in Fars Province: The 2007 Goiter and Urinary Iodine Excretion Survey in School Children
Background: The iodine deficiency elimination program that began two decades ago resulted in Iran becoming an iodine deficiency disorders free country in the Middle East region. The present study was performed to evaluate the adequacy of iodine supplementation after 17 years of universal salt iodization in Fars province. Methods: In a cross-sectional study, 1200 schoolchildren (480 girls and 72...
متن کاملStudy on the effect of high calcium intake on serum protein bound iodine and urinary excretion of iodine
Iodine deficiency remains a major health problem in the world, including some parts of Iran. It has been recognized that there is usually a close and inverse relationship between iodine in the soil and water and presence of endemic goiter. Calcium has been suggested as one of goitrogens, though the definite role, extent and mechanism particularly in human have not been studied. Serum protein-...
متن کامل24-HOUR URINARY CALCIUM EVALUATION IN A HEALTHY POPULATION SAMPLE AND IN PATIENTS WITH UROLITHIASIS
A study was designed to evaluate the normal value of 24 hr urinary calcium levels in the city of Yazd. The average urinary excretion of calcium in a sample of 329 persons randomly selected was 232 mg/day, while patients with a history of recurrent urolithiasis excreted 20X mg/day. There is evidence which shows that more important factors than the amount of urinary calcium exist which influe...
متن کاملIndices of intact serum parathyroid hormone and renal excretion of calcium, phosphate, and magnesium.
Up to date reference ranges were established for fasting renal excretion of calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium on 101 healthy children aged 2-15 years. A normal range for intact parathyroid hormone was also measured. The indices of calcium and magnesium excretion showed no correlation with age or sex so that a common range for all children could be established. The 97th centile values for urina...
