Fast winning strategies in Maker-Breaker games

چکیده
We consider unbiased Maker-Breaker games played on the edge set of the complete graph Kn on n vertices. Quite a few such games were researched in the literature and are known to be Maker’s win. Here we are interested in estimating the minimum number of moves needed for Maker in order to win these games. We prove the following results, for sufficiently large n: (1) Maker can construct a Hamilton cycle within at most n + 2 moves. This improves the classical bound of 2n due to Chvátal and Erdős [6] and is almost tight; (2) Maker can construct a perfect matching (for even n) within n/2 + 1 moves, and this is tight; (3) For a fixed k ≥ 3, Maker can construct a spanning k-connected graph within (1+o(1))kn/2 moves, and this is obviously asymptotically tight. Several other related results are derived as well.

Biased Weak Polyform Achievement Games
In a biased weak (a, b) polyform achievement game, the maker and the breaker alternately mark a, b previously unmarked cells on an infinite board, respectively. The maker’s goal is to mark a set of cells congruent to a polyform. The breaker tries to prevent the maker from achieving this goal. A winning maker strategy for the (a, b) game can be built from winning strategies for games involving f...
متن کاملWinning fast in fair biased Maker-Breaker games
We study the (a : a) Maker-Breaker games played on the edge set of the complete graph on n vertices. In the following four games – perfect matching game, Hamiltonicity game, star factor game and path factor game, our goal is to determine the least number of moves which Maker needs in order to win these games. Moreover, for all games except for the star factor game, we show how Red can win in th...
متن کاملFast Winning Strategies in Avoider-Enforcer Games
In numerous positional games the identity of the winner is easily determined. In this case one of the more interesting questions is not who wins but rather how fast can one win. These type of problems were studied earlier for Maker-Breaker games; here we initiate their study for unbiased Avoider-Enforcer games played on the edge set of the complete graph Kn on n vertices. For several games that...
متن کاملA Winning Strategy for the Ramsey Graph Game
We consider a \Maker-Breaker" version of the Ramsey Graph Game, RG(n), and present a winning strategy for Maker requiring at most (n 0 3)2 n01 + n + 1 moves. This is the fastest winning strategy known so far. We also demonstrate how the ideas presented can be used to develop winning strategies for some related combinatorial games.
متن کاملPotential-Based Strategies for Tic-Tac-Toe on the Integer Lattice with Numerous Directions
We consider a tic-tac-toe game played on the d-dimensional integer lattice. The game that we investigate is a Maker–Breaker version of tic-tac-toe. In a Maker– Breaker game, the first player, Maker, only tries to occupy a winning line and the second player, Breaker, only tries to stop Maker from occupying a winning line. We consider the bounded number of directions game, in which we designate a...
