چکیده

PRONETHALOL, an effective beta-adrenergic blocking agent, was observed to reduce arterial blood pressure in hypertensive patients being treated for angina pectoris.1 Subsequently Prichard and Gillam2 3 compared propranolol, another beta-adrenergic blocking drug, 120 to 640 mg/day, with previously administered methyldopa in 12 hypertensive patients and reported lower blood pressure during use of propranolol. Since in previous clinical trials2-6 the hypotensive effect of propranolol was not compared with that of placebo, we have evaluated the hypotensive efficacy of propranolol in comparison with that of inert tablets and a standard diuretic in trials in which neither physician nor pa-

Effect of propranolol on hepatic blood flow in normal and portal hypertensive rats.

1. The effects of propranolol on heart rate, arterial pressure, portal venous pressure and fractional hepatic blood flow were studied in rats with hepatic artery ligature or with portal vein stenosis, and in sham-operated rats. The effect of propranolol on cardiac output was also studied in normal rats. 2. In rats with hepatic artery ligature or with portal vein stenosis, and in sham-operated r...

Magnetic Resonance Imaging Measurement of Transmission of Arterial Pulsation to the Brain on Propranolol Versus Amlodipine.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Cerebral arterial pulsatility is associated with leukoaraiosis and depends on central arterial pulsatility and arterial stiffness. The effect of antihypertensive drugs on transmission of central arterial pulsatility to the cerebral circulation is unknown, partly because of limited methods of assessment. METHODS In a technique-development pilot study, 10 healthy voluntee...

The effects of hypocapnia on myocardial blood flow and metabolism.

1. In closed-chest dogs anaesthetized with trichlorethylene, the inhalation of carbon dioxide sufficient to increase the arterial P(CO2) from 40 to about 100 mm Hg, increased myocardial blood flow (measured using a (133)Xe clearance technique) and right atrial pressure. There were no consistent changes in mean arterial blood pressure, heart rate or cardiac output.2. The effect of hypercapnia on...

Effects of indomethacin on hemodynamic parameters after intravenous administration of propranolol and enalaprilat in rabbits.

The aim of the present study was to establish the effect of intravenous administration of indomethacin (10 mg/kg), potent inhibitor of prostaglandin synthesis, on hemodynamic parametrs after intravenous administration of propranolol (0.3 mg/kg) and enalaprilat (0.5 mg/kg) in rabbits. The following parameters were estimated: mean arterial blood pressure, heart rate, cardiac output and total peri...

Comparing the Effect of Simple Filtration Hemodialysis and Ultrafiltration Hemodialysis on Arterial Oxygen Saturation and Blood Pressure in Chronic Dialysis

Background and purpose: Hypoxemia and hypotension are important complications of hemodialysis in patients with chronic renal failure that are linked to several factors, including the type of filters used. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of simple filtration hemodialysis and ultrafiltration hemodialysis on blood pressure and blood arterial oxygen level. Materials and methods: In...
