Architecting Green Broadband Cable Access Network: Energy-Delay Trade-off
نویسندگان
چکیده
We propose and investigate an energy-saving algorithm for DOCSIS-3.0 cable access networks. Numerical simulations indicate a possible 17.4% energy-saving for 8000 cable modems, but also reveal a fundamental trade-off between energy and delay. Fair greening of broadband access: spectrum management for energy-efficient DSL networks
Dynamic spectrum management (DSM) is recognized as a promising technology to reduce power consumption in DSL access networks. However, the correct formulation of power-aware DSM problem statements requires a proper understanding of greening, i.e., reducing power consumption. In this paper, we, therefore, investigate greening and show that it can be decomposed into two dimensions: the price of g...

In recent years, several last mile high-speed technologies have been explored to provide Internet access and multimedia services to end users [1]. Most notable of those technologies are Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) cable networks, Digital Subscriber Line (DSL), Satellite Access, and fixed Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) systems. The de facto standard for delivering broadband services over HFC networ...
متن کاملApplying Multi-Connection Video Streaming to WiMAX Broadband Wireless
Streaming a single video over multiple TCPFriendly Rate Control (TFRC) connections is a way of separately coping with both wireless channel losses and traffic congestion, without the need for cross-layer intervention or retransmission delay at the data-link layer. At the same time, the wireless channel is properly utilized, as throughput improves with an increasing number of connections. Nevert...
متن کاملFiber-to-the-Premise (FTTP) over Cable TV’s Hybrid Fiber/Coax (HFC) Networks
Broadband access technologies of DSL and Cable Modem (CM) are now widely deployed by competing telecom and cable TV network operators respectively. Fiber-based FTTP (FTTH, FTTB, etc.) will be the ultimate access solutions. This paper will examine the broadband access network evolution options for FTTP over cable TV’s HFC networks and discuss its competitiveness when compared with telecom networ...

The number of households and businesses using HFC cable networks for Internet access is rapidly approaching 40 million in the United States. The cable industry has standardized on a single MAC and physical layer standard, the Data Over Cable System Interface Specification (DOCSIS). The emerging IEEE 802.16 broadband wireless access MAC protocol is based on DOCSIS. We have implemented a simulati...
