چکیده

The effect of topical administration of acetylcholine on the auricular and ventricular surface of the dog's heart was studied. The experiments show the appearance of variform arrhv-thmias, particularly auricular fibrillation. The tendency for the development of these arrhvthmias is diminished but not abolished by atropinization. The experiments confirm previous results of the authors according to which auricular flutter is due to a rapid stimulus formation in a center. They help explain the occasional appearance of extrasystoles and paroxysmal tachy-car~dias during vagus stimulation in experimental and clinical observations.

Body mass index and survival after in-hospital cardiac arrest.

BACKGROUND The quality and effectiveness of resuscitation processes may be influenced by the patient's body mass index (BMI); however, the relationship between BMI and survival after in-hospital cardiac arrest has not been previously studied. METHODS AND RESULTS We evaluated 21 237 adult patients with an in-hospital cardiac arrest within the National Registry for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation...

Cardiomyocyte Circadian Oscillations Are Cell-Autonomous, Amplified by β-Adrenergic Signaling, and Synchronized in Cardiac Ventricle Tissue

Circadian clocks impact vital cardiac parameters such as blood pressure and heart rate, and adverse cardiac events such as myocardial infarction and sudden cardiac death. In mammals, the central circadian pacemaker, located in the suprachiasmatic nucleus of the hypothalamus, synchronizes cellular circadian clocks in the heart and many other tissues throughout the body. Cardiac ventricle explant...

Acceleration of idioventricular rhythms by histamine in guinea pig heart: mediation by H2 receptors.

To evaluate the ability of histamine to induce ventricular arrhythmias, we studied the effects of histamine on ventricular rhythmicity in the isolated guinea pig heart with complete atrioventricular conduction block. As a function of dose (0.1-30 microgram), histamine enhanced the idioventricular rate by increasing the rate of firing of the original pacemaker and also by causing the sudden appe...

A confused ECG with multiple rhythms caused by atrial premature contractions

INTRODUCTION Atrial premature contractions (APCs) are commonly encountered in clinical practice. The APCs may influence heart conduction system and induce other arrhythmia. The disorder of atrioventricular conduction is related to electrophysiological phenomena, difficult to understand and diagnose. CASE REPORT We presented a 15-year-old male patient whose baseline electrocardiogram (ECG) was...

A review of the utility of a hypothermia protocol in cardiac arrests due to non-shockable rhythms.

BACKGROUND Therapeutic hypothermia and targeted temperature management are considered standard of care in the management of patients following out-of-hospital cardiac arrests due to shockable rhythms to improve neurological outcomes. In those presenting out-of-hospital cardiac arrests associated with non-shockable rhythms, the benefit of hypothermia is less clear. In this review we try to clari...
