Matched Filter Hypothesis 1 Running Head: MATCHED FILTER HYPOTHESIS FOR COGNITIVE CONTROL A Matched Filter Hypothesis for Cognitive Control

چکیده
The prefrontal cortex exerts top-down influences on several aspects of higher-order cognition by functioning as a filtering mechanism that biases bottom-up sensory information toward a response that is optimal in context. However, research also indicates that not all aspects of complex cognition benefit from prefrontal regulation. Here we review and synthesize this research with an emphasis on the domains of learning and creative cognition, and outline how the appropriate level of cognitive control in a given situation can vary depending on the organism’s goals and the characteristics of the given task. We offer a Matched Filter Hypothesis for cognitive control, which proposes that the optimal level of cognitive control is taskdependent, with high levels of cognitive control best suited to tasks that are explicit, rule-based, verbal or abstract, and can be accomplished given the capacity limits of working memory and with low levels of cognitive control best suited to tasks that are implicit, reward-based, nonverbal or intuitive, and which can be accomplished irrespective of working memory limitations. Our approach promotes a view of cognitive control as a tool adapted to a subset of common challenges, rather than an all-purpose optimization system suited to every problem the organism

متن کاملUnscented Auxiliary Particle Filter Implementation of the Cardinalized Probability Hypothesis Density Filters
The probability hypothesis density (PHD) filter suffers from lack of precise estimation of the expected number of targets. The Cardinalized PHD (CPHD) recursion, as a generalization of the PHD recursion, remedies this flaw and simultaneously propagates the intensity function and the posterior cardinality distribution. While there are a few new approaches to enhance the Sequential Monte Carlo (S...

Spectrum sensing is the most significant technique in Cognitive Radio system. So in this paper for the terrestrial television broadcasting (ISDB-T) system of integrated services digital broadcasting, i develop the algorithm based energy detector with low detection delay using sequential hypothesis testing and matched filter detector of spectrum sensing used on OFDM system which is use as a prim...
متن کاملSpectrum Sensing for Cognitive Radio Using Hybrid Matched Filter Single Cycle Cyclostationary Feature Detector
Spectrum sensing is an important task in cognitive radio (CR). Matched filter technique one of the techniques employed for spectrum sensing in cognitive radio which faces the challenge of low frequency offset tolerance in very low SNR environments. Hybrid matched filter architecture is used to improve this frequency offset tolerance. But, overall even such kind of architecture results in coarse...
