Oxygen saturation during the first 24 hours of life.

چکیده
AIM To determine normative data for arterial oxygen saturation, measured by pulse oximetry (SpO2), in healthy full term infants throughout their first 24 hours of life. METHODS Long term recordings of SpO2, pulse waveform, and breathing movements were made on 90 infants. Recordings were analysed for baseline SpO(2), episodes of desaturation (SpO2 /= four seconds, and periodic apnoea (>/= three apnoeic pauses, each separated by /= 20 seconds) were identified in six recordings. Four desaturations fell to </= 60%. Periodic apnoea was identified in 60% of recordings. CONCLUSION The range of SpO2 during the first 24 hours of life is similar to that found previously during the first month of life. The clinical significance of the prolonged episodes of desaturation observed justifies further investigation.

[Pethidine for labor analgesia; monitoring of newborn heart rate, blood pressure and oxygen saturation during the first 24 hours after the delivery].
BACKGROUND There is no information about an effect of pethidine labor analgesia on newborn vital signs in the first hours after the delivery. OBJECTIVES The aim of the study was to assess changes in heart rate, blood pressure and oxygen saturation during the first 24 hours of life in neonates born after using pethidine for labor analgesia. METHODS 55 full-term neonates, 34 from intramuscula...
متن کاملComparative study of pulse oximetry, physical examination and echocardiography results in the diagnosis of congenital heart defects in neonates in the first 24 hours of life
Introduction: Congenital heart disease is the most common congenital anomaly. About 50% of Neonates with congenital heart disease are asymptomatic in the first few days of life and are not diagnosed on initial examination. Pulse oximetry is a non-invasive method that can show the percentage of oxygen saturation in the blood and congenital heart disease. Methods: This was a descriptive cross-se...

INTRODUCTION There is no available information about the effects of remifentanil labor analgesia on newborns' vital signs in the first hours after delivery. The aim of the study was to assess changes in the heart rate, blood pressure and oxygen saturation during the first 24 h of neonatal life after using remifentanil patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) for labor analgesia. MATERIAL AND METHOD...
متن کاملOxygen saturation ranges for healthy newborns within 24 hours at 1800 m
There are minimal data to define normal oxygen saturation (SpO2) levels for infants within the first 24 hours of life and even fewer data generalisable to the 7% of the global population that resides at an altitude of >1500 m. The aim of this study was to establish the reference range for SpO2 in healthy term and preterm neonates within 24 hours in Nairobi, Kenya, located at 1800 m. A random sa...
متن کاملCerebral oxygenation and electrical activity after birth asphyxia: their relation to outcome.
OBJECTIVE To determine the value of regional cerebral oxygen saturation (rSo2), fractional cerebral tissue oxygen extraction (FTOE) measured by near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), and amplitude integrated electroencephalogram (aEEG) after birth asphyxia in relation to neurodevelopmental outcome. METHODS NIRS measured rSo2, FTOE, and aEEG were monitored simultaneously, together with arterial ox...
