چکیده

COMPUTATIONALMODELING of mechanical behavior during solidification is becoming more important. Thermal and microstructural simulations alone are insufficient to predict the quality of the final product that is desired by the casting industry. Accurate calculation of displacements, strains, and stresses during the casting process is needed to predict residual stress and distortion and defects such as the formation of cracks such as hot tears. It also helps predict porosity and segregation. As computing power and software tools for computational mechanics advance, it is becoming increasingly possible to perform useful mechanical analysis of castings and these important related behaviors. The thermomechanical analysis of castings presents a formidable challenge for many reasons:

Determination of Load and Strain-Stress Distributions in Hot Closed Die Forging Using the Plasticine Modeling Technique

An axisymmetric hot closed die-forging process has been studied by physical modeling technique using the plasticine. To observe the material flow pattern, layers of plasticine with different colors were used. The normal direction to the layers was considered a principal direction. The strain distribution was obtained by measuring the thickness of the plasticine layers. Based on the strain distr...

Application of the Hot Spotting Method for the Straightening of a Large Turbine Rotor

Different problems may cause distortion of the rotor, and hence vibration, which is the most severe damage of the turbine rotors. Different techniques have been developed for the straightening of bent rotors. The method for straightening can be selected according to initial information from preliminary inspections and tests such as nondestructive tests, chemical analysis, run out tests and also...

Modeling of Hot Tearing and Other Defects in Casting Processes

AS COMPUTATIONAL MODELS MATURE, their practical benefit to improving casting processes is growing. Accurate calculation of fluid velocities, temperature, microstructure, and stress evolution is just the first step. Achieving tangible improvements to casting processes requires the accurate prediction of actual casting defects and product properties. Defects that form during solidification are im...

Flow Stress Modeling in a γ-γ/ Cobalt Base Superalloy by Using the Hyperbolic Sine Equation and ANN Method

The new class of wrought γ-γ/ Co-base superalloys, which are based on Co-Al-W system,  was developed by conventional hot working routes with a high volume fraction of γ/ precipitates and good mechanical properties. The aim of the present study was to predict the flow stress and hot deformation modeling of a novel γ-γ/ Co-base superalloy. The hot compression test...

MODELING THE HOT DEFORMATION FLOW CURVES OF API X65 PIPELINE STEEL USING THE POWER LAW EQUATION

Till now, different constitutive models have been applied to model the hot deformation flow curves of different materials. In this research, the hot deformation flow stress of API X65 pipeline steel was modeled using the power law equation with strain dependent constants. The results was compared with the results of the other previously examined constitutive equations including the Arrhenius eq...
