چکیده

Stent thrombosis is an example of device-induced, plateletmediated arterial thrombosis. Rates of stent thrombosis can vary from 1% to 10% depending on the patient population, genetic predisposition, device type, pharmacological choices, and duration of antiplatelet pharmacotherapy. The Platelet Colloquium is an annual academic–industry–governmental thinktank meeting devoted to identifying research challenges in platelet biology and clinical applications. The latest meeting was held in Washington, DC, on January 25 to 26, 2011, and this review summarizes the discussions of biocompatible stent design, platelet function assessment, and prevention of thrombosis via shortand long-term P2Y12 platelet receptor antagonism.

Emerging thrombotic effects of drug eluting stents.

Drug eluting stents (DES) have been enthusiastically introduced into contemporary interventional cardiology practice. By delivering locally active doses of antiproliferative drugs, they have demonstrated an impressive capacity to inhibit restenosis caused by neointimal hyperplasia; a complication that has plagued uncoated “bare-metal” stents (BMS). DES coated with either paclitaxel or rapamycin...

The Canadian Association of Interventional Cardiology and the Canadian Cardiovascular Society joint statement on drug-eluting stents.

Recent reports of late stent thrombosis events following deployment of drug-eluting stents (DES) have raised concerns about their safety and role in the management of coronary artery disease. The Canadian Association of Interventional Cardiology and the Canadian Cardiovascular Society have carefully examined the available evidence, including the data presented at the recent Food and Drug Admini...

Dual antiplatelet therapy after drug-eluting stent implantation: is it time to slacken the reins?

Drug-eluting stents (DES) were introduced in interventional practice more than 10 years ago and rapidly replaced bare-metal stents (BMS) for treatment of coronary artery disease because of their superior capability to reduce the need for restenosis-driven repeat intervention. Soon, it became obvious that besides optimal stenting technique, dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT), which means the combi...

Coronary stents: current status.

Coronary artery stents revolutionized the practice of interventional cardiology after they were first introduced in the mid-1980s. Since then, there have been significant developments in their design, the most notable of which has been the introduction of drug-eluting stents. This paper reviews the benefits, risks, and current status of Food and Drug Administration-approved drug-eluting stents.

Drug-eluting Balloons in Coronary Artery Disease: Past, Present and Future INTERVENTIONAL CARDIOLOGY | REVIEW

The use of drug eluting stents (DES) majorly reduced in-stent restenosis though preventing not only recoil of the vessel wall and late negative remodelling, but also significantly inhibiting neo-intimal hyperplasia formation. However, concerns about in-stent thrombosis, and the dependency on prolonged dual antiplatelet therapy, and continued restenosis in complex lesion subsets, led to a search...
