A study of palatal segments' production by danish speakers

چکیده
Most acoustical researches consider palatality through languages dominated by the palatalization process, like Russian. In this paper, we propose to apply acoustical analysis, adapted to the dynamical character of the palatal sounds to the Danish language, which is exempt from any palatalization process and has no palatal phonemes, except [j]. In all cases, we can observe the setting up of a transitionality marking the acoustical signal in one or several of its attributes. The realizations of the sequences associating the palatal segment with a nasal one offered very interesting results: some particular reorganizations of the time function, which do not exist in Russian, can be observed

The Prosody of Discourse Structure and Content in the Production of Persian EFL Learners
The present research addressed the prosodic realization of global and local text structure and content in the spoken discourse data produced by Persian EFL learners. Two newspaper articles were analyzed using Rhetorical Structure Theory. Based on these analyses, the global structure in terms of hierarchical level, the local structure in terms of the relative importance of text segments and the ...
متن کاملAcoustics and perception of velar softening for unaspirated stops
This paper provides articulatory, acoustic and perceptual data in support of the hypothesis that the velar softening process through which /k/ becomes /tP/ is based on articulation rather than on acoustic equivalence if operating on unaspirated stops. Production data for unaspirated /k/ are analyzed for five speakers of Majorcan Catalan, where the velar stop phoneme exhibits (alveolo)palatal or...
متن کاملPhonetic similarity predicts ultimate attainment quite well: The case of Danish /i, y, u/ and /d, t/ for native speakers of English and Spanish
This study examined how well phonetic similarity predicted ultimate attainment in the production of Danish /i, y, u/ and /d, t/ by highly experienced native speakers of English and of Spanish. Experiment 1 compared the VOT of /d, t/ and the F2 of /i, y, u/ as produced by native speakers of the three languages. Experiment 2 examined the perceptual assimilation of Danish [i, y, u] to native /i, u...
متن کاملPhonology and phonetics of Greek palatalisation
The present investigation examines palatal production as well as the relation of phonology and phonetics in Greek. In accordance with one production experiment, the results indicate: (1) palatal productions that surface from one underlying segment are significantly longer than palatal productions that surface from two underlying segments, (2) palatal productions are voice assimilated with the p...
متن کاملProduction of English Lexical Stress by Persian EFL Learners
This study examines the phonetic properties of lexical stress in English produced by Persian speakers learning English as a foreign language. The four most reliable phonetic correlates of English lexical stress, namely fundamental frequency, duration, intensity, and vowel quality were measured across Persian speakers’ production of the stressed and unstressed syllables of five English disyllabi...
