Comparison between classes of state-quadratic Lyapunov functions for discrete-time linear polytopic and switched systems

چکیده
The paper deals with the stability properties of linear discrete-time switched systems with polytopic sets of modes. The most classical way of studying the uniform asymptotic stability of such a system is to check for the existence of a quadratic Lyapunov function. It is known from the literature that letting the Lyapunov function depend on the time-varying switching parameter improves the chance that a quadratic Lyapunov function exists. Our objective is to compare different notions of quadratic stability. The contribution of this paper is twofold. In the first part we consider switching systems satisfying a certain non-degeneracy assumption and we prove that, for such systems, no gain in the stability analysis is obtained if we allow the Lyapunov function to depend explicitly also on time. In the second part we consider the case where the non-degeneracy assumption is violated. We prove that in this case allowing the Lyapunov function to depend on time is less conservative. We also show that new LMI conditions can be used in order to characterize the existence of a time-dependent quadratic Lyapunov function. Moreover in the paper we discuss the case where the variation of the switching parameter is bounded by a prescribed constant between two subsequent times. © 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

متن کاملA new switching strategy for exponential stabilization of uncertain discrete-time switched linear systems in guaranteed cost control problem
Uncertain switched linear systems are known as an important class of control systems. Performance of these systems is affected by uncertainties and its stabilization is a main concern of recent studies. Existing work on stabilization of these systems only provides asymptotical stabilization via designing switching strategy and state-feedback controller. In this paper, a new switching strate...
متن کاملRobust stability analysis and control design for switched uncertain polytopic systems
This paper is dedicated to the study of robust stability analysis and control synthesis for discrete time uncertain switching systems under arbitrary switching. Polytopic uncertainties are considered. We show that Lyapunov functions that depend on the uncertain parameter and that take into account the structure of the system may be used in order to reduce the conservatism related to uncertainty...
متن کاملExponential Stabilizability of Switched Systems with Polytopic Uncertainties
The exponential stabilizability of switched nonlinear systems with polytopic uncertainties is explored by employing themethods of nonsmooth analysis and theminimum quadratic Lyapunov function. The switchings among subsystems are dependent on the directional derivative along the vertex directions of subsystems. In particular, a sufficient condition for exponential stabilizability of the switched...
متن کاملRobust Stability Analysis and Synthesis for Switched Discrete-Time Systems with Time Delay
The problems of robust stability analysis and synthesis for a class of uncertain switched timedelay systems with polytopic type uncertainties are addressed. Based on the constructive use of an appropriate switched Lyapunov function, sufficient linear matrix inequalities LMIs conditions are investigated to make such systems a uniform quadratic stability with an L2-gain smaller than a given const...
