The "spindle-shaped Body" in Fibroblasts
نویسنده
چکیده
In a recent study of the fine structure of normal uninfected fibroblasts from regenerating tendon, periarticular granulation tissue (rabbit), and various other tissues (human, chicken, hamster), Movat and Fernando (1) have described a cell organelle not yet found elsewhere. This organelle is spindle-shaped and occurs irregularly within the cytoplasm, mainly in the Golgi region and in the peripheral portion of the cell. The inner structure of the organelle is apparently fibrous, bundles of fibrils being enveloped in a sheath or membrane. Staining of the cells with phosphotungstic acid showed that the fibrils had a high electron opacity, whereas the sheath or membrane possessed a lower affinity for the stain. The so called "spindle-shaped body" measures 500 to 600 A by 2,500 to 3,000 A. The function of these bodies is not known. However, their relation to secretion has been presumed. Another presumption, that these organelles may be phagocytosed collagen, could not be confirmed since no cross-banding has been detected by the staining technique employed. In our current studies on the reproductive cycle of Rous sarcoma virus (RSV) in chicken fibroblasts, we have only once encountered cell organelles similar to the "spindle-shaped body" described by Movat and Fernando. I t is of general interest to compare, in respect to occurrence and fine structure, the "spindle-shaped bodies" described by these authors with the organelles we have found in cultured chicken fibroblasts.

Introduction: In this study the effect of vitreous humor on the mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) derived from bone marrow to lens fiber-like cells was investigated. Methods: In this experimental study bone marrow cells were collected by flushing femurs and tibias in NMRI mice. Immunocytochemistry by Oct4 antibody was used to confirm that the cells are stem cells. The mesenchymal character of thes...
متن کاملThe Spindle Cell Neoplasms of the Oral Cavity
Spindle cell neoplasms are defined as neoplasms that consist of spindle-shaped cells in the histopathology. Spindle cell neoplasms can affect the oral cavity. In the oral cavity, the origin of the spindle cell neoplasms may be traced to epithelial, mesenchymal and odontogenic components. This article aims to review the spindle cell neoplasms of the oral cavity with emphasis on histopathology. ...

This is a report of a penile fibrosarcoma in a two-year-old crossbred Holstein bull. The ulcerated tumormass with dimensions of 7 × 9 × 6.5 cm, was enveloped the glans and body of the penis. It had a white-graycolor at cross section appearance. There was no metastatic evidence of regional lymph node enlargement.Histopathologically, elongated spindle-shaped cells arranged densely in the interwov...

The disorder is caused by a deficiency of acid ceramidase which may be best diagnosed by missing ceramidasc activity at a...
متن کاملInteraction between vascular endothelial cells and vascular intimal spindle-shaped cells in vitro.
The interactions between human or bovine vascular endothelial cells and fibroblast-like vascular intimal spindle-shaped cells have been studied in vitro, using species-specific antibodies to identify the different components in mixed cultures. Pure cultures of endothelial cells grow as uniform, nonoverlapping monolayers, but this growth pattern is lost after the addition of spindle cells, proba...
