چکیده

YXOMA is an infrequent but important LYE intracardiac lesion which occurs most often in the left atrium. Although it has been suggested that atrial myxomas merely represent degenerated thrombi, evidence strongly favors a neoplastic origin.1 Since the first successful removal of an intracardiac myxoma in 1955,2 numerous reports dealing with surgical resection of these tumors have appeared in the literature.39 In 1966, Newman and associates3 reviewed 58 attempted excisions of left atrial myxomas and reported no recurrence, and Firor's group4 reported a 5 to 10-year follow-up of their three operative cases with no reappearance of the tumor. They concluded that simple excision of atrial myxomas was adequate and that a resection of the adjacent atrial septum or wall was unnecessary. Similar opinions have been expressed by others,5' " based on the absence of recurrence and a lack of invasion of the myxoma beyond the elastic fibers of the second endothelial layer. We recently had the opportunity to study a patient in whom a left atrial myxoma

Myxoma is the most common type of primary tumors of heart. Recurrence of nonfamilial myxoma is unusual and recurrence in left atrial appendage is not reported. We present a case of sporadic myxoma in the left atrium who had a successful resection. However, the patient’s constitutional symptoms caused confusion and difficulty in diagnosis. Final diagnosis was recurrent Myxoma in the left atri...

Recurrent stroke in a case of left atrial myxoma masquerading vasculitis.

We report a case of left atrial myxoma presenting as recurrent neurological deficits with absent peripheral pulses mimicking systemic vasculitis. Due to absence of cardiac signs and symptoms, there was one year delay in diagnosis from initial symptom. Left atrial myxomas are rare but treatable cause of recurrent stroke.

Left Atrial Myxoma: A Rare Tumor in a Child

Atrial myxomas are uncommon in the pediatric population but are very important due to pursuant atrioventricular valve obstruction and systemic embolic events. Concerning multiple symptoms ranging from congestive heart failure to neurological deficits, the diagnosis of this disease is complicated. This paper reports a case of left atrium myxoma in a child treated with a surgical excision o...

Our re-do extirpation in a case with recurrent giant left atrial myxoma forming mitral stenosis

Methods Our case was a 41-year-old female. She had undergone a successful extirpation of a left atrial myxoma with a partial resection and primary repair of the interatrial septum 2 years ago. She was suffering from dyspnea and fatigue for 1 month. Her TTE revealed a mass lesion of 49 x 22 mm within the left atrial cavity originating from the interatrial septum, consistent with a recurrent myxoma.

Recurrent left atrial myxoma.

Based on statistics from the UK, the incidence of myxoma is about 1:1,000,000/year. Three recent cases of recurrent myxoma are reported, one where excision was probably incomplete, one where tumour implantation may have occurred and one where a mesenchymal sarcoma was misinterpreted histologically. The relative importance of these three factors in recurrence of cardiac tumours after surgical ex...

Left Atrial Myxoma With Pleural Effusion

UNLABELLED Cardiac myxomas are histologically benign tumors but they may be lethal because of their strategic position. They have variable presentations and excellent prognosis after surgical excision. Left atrial myxomas may mimic mitral stenosis and is very rarely associated with pleural effusion. We presented a case of left atrial myxoma blocking mitral orifice and causing recurrent pulmonar...
