Motion Estimation in Image Sequences Using the Deformation of Apparent Contours
نویسندگان
چکیده
The problem of determining the camera motion from apparent contours or silhouettes of curved three-dimensional surfaces is considered. In a sequence of images, it is shown how to use the generalised epipolar constraint on apparent contours. One such constraint is obtained for each epipolar tangency point in each image pair. Thus in theory the motion can be calculated from the deformation of a single contour. A robust algorithm for computing the motion is presented based on the maximum likelihood estimate. It is shown how to generate initial estimates on the camera motion using only the tracked contours. It is also shown how to improve this estimate by maximising the likelihood function. The algorithm has been tested on real image sequences. The result is compared to the that of using only point features. The statistical evaluation shows that the technique gives accurate and stable results.

Oceanographic images obtained from environmental satellites by a wide range of sensors allow characterizing natural phenomena through different physical measurements. For instance Sea Surface Temperature (SST) images, altimetry data and ocean color data can be used for characterizing currents and vortex structures in the ocean. The purpose of this thesis is to derive a relatively complete frame...

Accurate estimation of motion from time-varying imagery has been a popular problem in vision studies, This information can be used in segmentation, 3D motion and shape recovery, target tracking, and other problems in scene analysis and interpretation. We have presented a dynamic image model for estimating image motion from image sequences, and have shown how the solution can be obtained from a ...

The goal of multi-frame Super Resolution (SR) is to fuse multiple Low Resolution (LR) images to produce one High Resolution (HR) image. The major challenge of classic SR approaches is accurate motion estimation between the frames. To handle this challenge, fuzzy motion estimation method has been proposed that replaces value of each pixel using the weighted averaging all its neighboring pixels i...
متن کاملStructure and motion estimation from apparent contours under circular motion
In this paper we address the problem of recovering structure and motion from the apparent contours of a smooth surface. Fixed image features under circular motion and their relationships with the intrinsic parameters of the camera are exploited to provide a simple parameterization of the fundamental matrix relating any pair of views in the sequence. Such a parameterization allows a trivial init...
متن کاملOn the deformation of image intensity and zero-crossing contours under motion
Image intensity and edge are two major sources of information for estimating the motion in the image plane. The 2-D motion obtained by analyzing the deformation of intensity and/or edges is used to recover the 3-D motion and structure. In this paper we show that the motion defined by the image intensity differs from the motion revealed by the (zerocrossing) edge. Understanding of this discrepan...
