چکیده

Material and methods 13 patients with histopathologically proven oesophageal adenocarcinoma underwent a combined dynamic and static F-FDG PET/CT including CT tumour perfusion (Siemens, Biograph mCT). Dynamic PET (listmode) was acquired for 60 min resulting in 38 frames from 10 to 600 sec duration for the full dynamic dataset and 2 frames each with 600 sec duration (20-30 min and 50-60 min p.i.) for dual time point PET (DTP). We evaluated the metabolic rate Ki using different models: 2-compartment irreversible model (Fit), Patlak plot and DTP (van den Hoff et al). The CT tumour perfusion protocol included the parameters blood flow, blood volume and permeability.

Detection of extra-cardiac hypermetabolic foci by [18F]FDG PET/CT in case of infective endocarditis and post antibiotic therapy response assessment

The diagnosis of prosthetic valve endocarditis continues to present a diagnostic challenge, due to the lower sensitivity of the modified Duke criteria and a higher percentage of negative or inconclusive echocardiography results. Diagnostic delay might result in significant morbidity/mortality. Imaging modalities like 2-[18F]fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose positron emission tomography/comput...

The role of FDG PET/CT in the evaluation of treatment response in a case of calcified ovarian metastases

Evaluation of calcified metastatic lesions by conventional imaging can be challenging. Ovarian cancer metastases can present with calcification which might increase in size and number following therapy. It is not entirely clear whether these calcifications are associated with tumor response or disease progression. Calcified lesions which do not change in size or configuration are particularly p...

The potential value of F-18 FDG PET in comparison to ct in early prediction of response to Imatinib (STI571) therapy in patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumors

Introduction: Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are the most common mesenchymal neoplasms of the gastrointestinal tract. GIST has been shown to over-express c-KIT (CD117), the receptor tyrosine kinase. Imatinib (STI571 or Glivec) is a new type of tyrosine kinase inhibitor that selectively inhibits various tyrosine kinases and has been successfully used to trea...

Computed tomography based attenuation correction in PET/CT: Principles, instrumentation, protocols, artifacts and future trends

The advent of dual-modality PET/CT imaging has revolutionized the practice of clinical oncology, cardiology and neurology by improving lesions localization and the possibility of accurate quantitative analysis. In addition, the use of CT images for CT-based attenuation correction (CTAC) allows to decrease the overall scanning time and to create a noise-free attenuat...

Quantitative approaches of dynamic FDG-PET and PET/CT studies (dPET/CT) for the evaluation of oncological patients

OBJECTIVES The use of dynamic positron emission tomography/computed tomography (dPET/CT) studies with [18F]deoxyglucose (FDG) in oncological patients is limited and primarily confined to research protocols. A more widespread application is, however, desirable, and may help to assess small therapeutic effects early after therapy as well as to differentiate borderline differences between tumour a...
