In vitro antioxidant capacity of daylily ( Hemerocallis disticha ) flowers cultivated in Taiwan

چکیده
Daylilies (Hemerocallis disticha) are very popular for vegetarian cuisine in Taiwan and have been long used as a nutritious food and/or traditional medicine in Chinese society. Therefore, the antioxidant capacity of daylily flowers was investigated with a number of established in vitro assays. The results showed that DPPH radical scavenging activity, hydrogen peroxide scavenging activity, superoxide anion scavenging activity and hydroxyl radical scavenging activity all increased with increasing concentrations of daylily flowers extract. Moreover, the IC50 values of daylily flowers extract from the hydrogen peroxide, superoxide radical, hydroxyl radical scavenging assays were 1.45 ± 0.11, 1.23 ± 0.12 and 18.55 ± 1.57 μg/ml, respectively. Taken together, these results clearly indicate that daylily flower has significant potential as a natural antioxidant agent. [Ying-Chuan Wang. In vitro and vivo antioxidant activities of daylily flowers and the involvement of phenolic compounds.
Daylily (Hemerocallis fulva Linn.) flowers were hot air-dried and freeze-dried after harvest. Antioxidant properties of water and ethanol extracts prepared from these dried flowers were evaluated in terms of total antioxidant activity, reducing capacity, and metal chelating activity. Extracts from daylily flowers exhibited strong antioxidant activity. Ethanol was more efficiency to extract anti...

Daylilies (Hemerocallis spp., Liliaceae) are one of the most important cultivated perennial plants in the United States. Daylily rust, a serious disease caused by Puccinia hemerocallidis Thüm., was observed in Georgia in August 2000 (14) and was found in at least 20 other states and in Costa Rica in 2001. It was originally described from Russia, reported throughout the Japanese archipelago, and...
متن کاملEffects of phenolic constituents of daylily flowers on corticosterone- and glutamate-treated PC12 cells
BACKGROUND Daylily flowers, the flower and bud parts of Hemerocallis citrina or H. fulva, are well known as Wang-You-Cao in Chinese, meaning forget-one's sadness plant. However, the major types of active constituents responsible for the neurological effects remain unclear. This study was to examine the protective effects of hydroalcoholic extract and fractions and to identify the active fractio...
متن کاملA new day dawning: Hemerocallis (daylily) as a future model organism
Genetic model organisms have revolutionized science, and today, with the rapid advances in technology, there is significant potential to launch many more plant species towards model status. However, these new model organisms will have to be carefully selected. Here, we argue that Hemerocallis (daylily) satisfies multiple criteria for selection and deserves serious consideration as a subject of ...

Gene expression analysis using reverse transcription quantitative real-time PCR (RT-qPCR) requires the use of reference gene(s) in the target species. The long yellow daylily, Hemerocallis citrina Baroni. is rich in beneficial secondary metabolites and is considered as a functional vegetable. It is widely cultivated and consumed in East Asian countries. However, reference genes for use in RT-qP...
