Direct Estimation of Linear Functionals from Indirect Noisy Observations

چکیده
The authors study the efficiency of the linear–functional strategy, as introduced by Anderssen (1986), for inverse problems with observations blurred by Gaussian white noise with known intensity δ. The optimal accuracy is presented and it is shown how this can be achieved by a linear–functional strategy based on the noisy observations. This optimal linear–functional strategy is obtained from Tikhonov regularization of some dual problem. Next, the situation is treated when only a finite number of noisy observations, given beforehand is available. Under appropriate smoothness assumptions best possible accuracy still can be attained if the number of observations corresponds to the noise intensity in a proper way. It is also shown that, at least asymptotically this number of observations cannot be reduced.

Change-point estimation from indirect observations 1. Minimax complexity
We consider the problem of nonparametric estimation of signal singularities from indirect and noisy observations. Here by singularity we mean a discontinuity (change– point) of the signal or of its derivative. The model of indirect observations we consider is that of a linear transform of the signal, observed in white noise. The estimation problem is analyzed in a minimax framework. We provide ...
متن کاملOn adaptive inverse estimation of linear functionals in Hilbert scales
We address the problem of estimating the value of a linear functional h f , xi from random noisy observations of y 1⁄4 Ax in Hilbert scales. Both the white noise and density observation models are considered. We propose an estimation procedure that adapts to unknown smoothness of x, of f , and of the noise covariance operator. It is shown that accuracy of this adaptive estimator is worse only b...
متن کاملEstimating linear functionals in Poisson mixture models
This paper concerns the problem of estimating linear functionals of the mixing distribution from Poisson mixture observations. In particular, linear functionals for which parametric rate of convergence cannot be achieved are studied. It appears that Gaussian functionals are rather easy to estimate. Estimation of the distibution functions is then considered by approximating this functional by Ga...
متن کاملHardest One-Dimensional Subproblems
For a long time, lower bounds on the difficulty of estimation have been constructed by showing that estimation was difficult even in certain 1-dimensional subproblems. The logical extension of this is to identify hardest one dimensional subproblems and to ask whether these are, either exactly or approximately, as difficult as the full problem. We do this in three settings: estimating linear fun...

First principle calculations of nanolayered ZnO polymorphs (Wurzite–, Zincblende–, Rocksalt–structures) in the scheme of density functional theory were performedwith the help of full potential linear augmented plane wave (FP-LAPW) method. Theexchange - correlation potential is described by generalized gradient approximation asproposed by Perdew–Burke–Ernzrhof (GGA–PBE) and modified Becke–Johns...
