Calibration and Survey of AMANDA with SPASE
نویسندگان
چکیده
We report on analysis of coincident observation of air showers by the South Pole Air Shower Experiment (SPASE) and the Antarctic Muon and Neutrino Detector Array (AMANDA). We emphasize the response of AMANDA to muon bundles and the use of coincident events for calibration and survey of the deep AMANDA detector. This analysis is confined to data taken during 1997 when both SPASE-1 and SPASE-2 were in operation.

Measurement of the cosmic ray composition at the knee with the SPASE-2/AMANDA-B10 detectors AMANDA and SPASE Collaborations
The mass composition of high-energy cosmic rays at energies above 10 eV can provide crucial information for the understanding of their origin. Air showers were measured simultaneously with the SPASE-2 air shower array and the AMANDA-B10 Cherenkov telescope at the South Pole. This combination has the advantage to sample almost all highenergy shower muons and is thus a new approach to the determi...
متن کاملMuon Measurement with an Ice Cherenkov Tank at the South Pole
A 1.4 m3 ice Cherenkov tank was installed at the South Pole during the 2000-2001 austral summer. The penetrating muon rate was measured for three different incident angles with a scintillator muon telescope incorporating the tank as absorber. The freezing process was monitored and the detector was calibrated with the penetrating muons. The calibration is compared to a GEANT simulation of the de...
متن کاملCalibration Weighting to Compensate for Extreme Values, Non-response and Non-coverage in Labor Force Survey
Frame imperfection, non-response and unequal selection probabilities always affect survey results. In order to compensate for the effects of these problems, Devill and Särndal (1992) introduced a family of estimators called calibration estimators. In these estimators we look for weights that have minimum distance with design weights based on a distance function and satisfy calibration equa...
متن کاملSpase: the Connection among Solar and Space Physics Data Centers
The Space Physics Archive Search and Extract (SPASE) project is an international collaboration among Heliophysics (solar and space physics) groups concerned with data acquisition and archiving. The SPASE group has simplified the search for data through the development of the SPASE Data Model as a common method to describe data sets in the archives. The data model is an XML-based schema and is n...
متن کاملMembrane topology of Escherichia coli prolipoprotein signal peptidase (signal peptidase II).
The lsp gene of Escherichia coli encodes the inner membrane enzyme, signal peptidase II (SPase II). SPase II is comprised of 164 amino acid residues and contains four hydrophobic domains. A series of lsp-phoA and lsp-lacZ gene fusions have been constructed in vitro to determine the topology of SPase II. The fusion junction for each of these gene fusions was determined by DNA sequencing. The len...
