چکیده

C HROMOSOMAL CHANGES are frequently encountered in a variety of neoplastic conditions and are of great interest to both the pathologist and geneticist.2#{176} Chromosomal studies have had a profound impact on medical genetics. Further investigations are required, however, in order to elucidate the relationship between neoplasia and chromosome patterns. These studies should help to clarify the role of genetic imbalance in the development of the neoplastic process. It is now abundantly clear that certain hematologic disorders such as chronic granulocytic leukemia are accompanied by a specific chromosomal anomaly.4#{176} On the other hand, the various forms of acute leukemia do not exhibit a specific abnormal chromosomal pattern. As previously reported l)y other investigators and by our laboratory as well, acUte leukemia is known to occur with or without discernible chromosomal changes.4’14’2M’2 ”4#{176}45’52 Chromosomal al)errations in acute leukemia, when present, do not appear to be specific, a great variety of changes having been observed. Nevertheless, certain general similarities have been described more

افزایش ناهنجاری‌های کروموزومی در لنفوسیت‌های کودکان مبتلا به لوسمی لنفوبلاستی حاد بعد از تابش اشعه گاما

Background: Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common malignancy in childhood, characterized by excess lymphoblasts, and immature white blood cells that are continuously multiplying and overproducing in the bone marrow. The aim of this investigation was to measure the sensitivity of lymphocytes against gamma irradiation in patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, and also find ou...

Cytogenetic and FMS-Like Tyrosine Kinase 3 Mutation Analyses in Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia Patients

Background: The secondary genetic changes other than the promyelocytic leukemia-retinoic acid receptor (PML-RARA) fusion gene may contribute to the acute promyelocytic leukemogenesis. Chromosomal alterations and mutation of FLT3 (FMS-like tyrosine kinase 3) tyrosine kinase receptor are the frequent genetic alterations in acute myeloid leukemia. However, the prognostic significance of FLT3 mutat...

Secondary chromosomal abnormalities of de novo acute myeloid leukemia--a first report from the Middle East.

Secondary chromosome aberrations in de novo acute myeloid leukemia ( AML) are less specific and occur in addition to the primary chromosome abnormalities. Secondary chromosome aberration in acute nonlymphocytic leukemia has been recognized for many years as the most serious long-term complication of malignant disease. Our aim in this study was to focus on patients with AML associated with secon...

Multiplex reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction for simultaneous screening of 29 translocations and chromosomal aberrations in acute leukemia.

We have developed a multiplex reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) reaction, which enables us to detect 29 translocations/chromosomal aberrations in patients with acute lymphoid leukemia (ALL) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Through the construction and optimization of specific primers for each translocation, we have been able to reduce the set-up to 8 parallel multiplex P...

t(9;19)(q22;p13) in Acute Myelomonocytic Leukemia

Chromosomal aberrations play a role in the leukemogenesis of acute myeloid leukemia. Some chromosomal abnormalities such as t(8;21), t(15;17), and inv(16) are frequently observed, but hundreds of uncommon chromosomal translocations also exist and their significance remains to be clarified [1]. Here we introduce a case of acute myeloid leukemia with a very rare translocation and explain its morp...

Spectra of Chromosomal Aberrations in 325 Leukemia Patients and Implications for the Development of New Molecular Detection Systems

This study investigated the spectrum of chromosomal abnormalities in 325 leukemia patients and developed optimal profiles of leukemic fusion genes for multiplex RT-PCR. We prospectively analyzed blood and bone marrow specimens of patients with acute leukemia. Twenty types of chromosomal abnormalities were detected in 42% from all patients by commercially available multiplex RT-PCR for detecting...
