Quantitative assessment of pulmonary edema.

چکیده
• In the intact animal or man, pulmonary engorgement and edema are generally assessed on clinical and radiographic grounds. In the present study, pulmonary engorgement or a combination of pulmonary engorgement and edema was produced experimentally in anesthetized dogs and an attempt was made to distinguish between the two categories on the basis of measurements of the pulmonary blood volume, the pulmonary extravascular water volume and pulmonary mechanics. The results indicate that simultaneous determinations of the pulmonary blood volume and the extravascular water volume provide a quantitative basis for distinguishing between these two categories.

Mathematical Modelling of Pulmonary Edema
The excess accumulation of water in lung interstitial or alveolar is called pulmonary edema which is caused by factors that upset the normal Starling balance in micro-circulation. Pulmonary edema disturbs the alveolar gas exchanges which are normally regulated by the respiratory system. Mathematical modelling of pulmonary edema may help to predict the lung conditions and the mechanisms involved...
متن کاملAcute Pulmonary Edema Following Administration of Magnesium Sulfate in a Pregnant Patient
Acute pulmonary edema affects 0.08% to 1.5% of women during pregnancy and during the postpartum period, and preeclampsia/eclampsia is a major obstetric cause of acute pulmonary edema. We present a case of a 23-year-old nulliparous woman who was referred to our tertiary medical center for preterm labor and dyspnea. The patient complained of having suddenly developed respiratory distress and a de...

OBJECTIVE To compare quantitative computed tomography (CT) analysis and single-indicator thermodilution to measure pulmonary edema in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). METHOD Ten patients with ARDS were included. All underwent spiral CT of the thorax for estimating gas content of lung (GVCT), tissue volume of lung (TVCT), tissue volume index (TVI), mean radiographic at...
متن کاملA Case Report of a Young Pregnant Woman with Preeclampsia and Acute Pulmonary Edema in Severe Transient Heart Failure
Introduction: Young pregnant woman (32 weeks) following one-month illnesses, including peripheral edema, paresthesia and shortness of breath, for which no specific diagnosis was made in the evaluations; she was hospitalized with severe respiratory distress and pulmonary edema. Re-examination revealed severe systolic heart failure (left ventricular ejection fraction: 10-15%) with preeclampsia. A...
