Alternate Self-Shielding for High-Speed and Reliable On-Chip Global Interconnect

چکیده
In this paper, we propose alternate self shielding to remove critical transitions of on-chip global interconnect. Our proposed method alternates shield and signal wires cycle by cycle. The conventional self-shielding methods need additional wires to remove critical transition by encoding. The proposed alternate self-shielding, however, requires no additional wires. We evaluate our method by simulating signal transimission with a circuit simulator. As a result, our proposed method is superior in bit rate compared to others from 10% to 75%. key words: alternate self shielding, on-chip global interconnect, critical transition and bus encoding

Studies of Interconnect Tuning for High-Performance Designs
Interconnect tuning is an increasingly critical degree of freedom in the design of high-performance VLSI systems. By interconnect tuning, we refer to the selection by a design team of line thicknesses, widths and spacings in multi-layer interconnect to simultaneously achieve: (i) distribution (available wiring density) for local signals, global signals, clock, power and ground; (ii) performance...

Interconnect tuning is an increasingly critical degree of freedom in the physical design of high-performance VLSI systems. By interconnect tuning, we refer to the selection of line thicknesses, widths and spacings in multi-layer interconnect to simultaneously optimize signal distribution, signal performance, signal integrity, and interconnect manufacturability and reliability. This is a key act...

This paper describes the key challenges, design methods, CAD and learnings in the area of interconnect and noise immunity design for the Intel Pentium 4 processor. This high frequency (currently at 3 Ghz with 6 Ghz execution core) design required aggressive domino, pulsed and other novel high speed circuit families that are very noise sensitive. Controlling interconnect delay, capacitive and i...

This article describes a novel Boundary Scan-like Built-In Self-Test (BIST) conception for autonomous at-speed testing and diagnosis of interconnect. It is based on recently proposed very efficient design of test pattern generation and response analysis hardware, which allows detection and diagnosis of both static and dynamic faults upon interconnects between chips in a multi-chip environment. ...
