Cosmic Strings II
نویسنده
چکیده
This piece is a limited improvisatory correspondence of the bass clarinet and live electronics with images of “Cosmic String dynamics and Evolution”. The person controlling the live electronics will start sending audio through the Max patch and sending an image from the Jitter patch into the projector simultaneously to begin the piece. The clarinet player is controlling Jitter in realtime. The images are responding to the bass clarinet player’s 4 pressure sensors (Force Sensing Resistors) installed on bass clarinet keys and to the live electronics player’s 4 bend sensors. The first time the clarinet player sees a new image, they will play the principal tone, and then play any of the 11 possible multiphonics shown. As new images appear the player can freely choose their own orderings of the principal tone and multiphonics. The bass clarinet and live electronics players see the same image and all musical expressions except written notes are decided by their controlling sensor on Jitter patch. For example, two images are changed by sending simultaneously toward A by pressure sensor and toward B by live electronics player through mixer on Jitter. Therefore, the written score is only outline and it can be changed for performance.

Brane World Cosmic String Interaction
It is shown that brane world gravity produces an attractive force between cosmic strings, in contrast to conventional Einstein gravity. This force is sufficient for stable bound states of Type II strings (which normally repel each other) to form. There is a small separation between the strings, giving them a rope-like structure. At astronomical scales these ‘cosmic ropes’ resemble higher windin...
متن کاملEffective action and tension renormalization for cosmic and fundamental strings
We derive the effective action for classical strings coupled to dilatonic, gravitational, and axionic fields. We show how to use this effective action for: (i) renormalizing the string tension, (ii) linking ultraviolet divergences to the infrared (long-range) interaction between strings, (iii) bringing additional light on the special cancellations that occur for fundamental strings, and (iv) po...
متن کاملCosmic strings
The topic of cosmic strings provides a bridge between the physics of the very small and the very large. They are predicted by some unified theories of particle interactions. If they exist, they may help to explain some of the largest-scale structures seen in the Universe today. They are 'topological defects' that may have been formed at phase transitions in the very early history of the Univers...

We give an upper estimate for the number of gamma ray bursts from ordinary (non-superconducting) cosmic strings expected to be observed at terrestrial detectors. Assuming that cusp annihilation is the mechanism responsible for the bursts we consider strings arising at a GUT phase transition and compare our estimate with the recent BATSE results. Further we give a lower limit for the effective a...
متن کاملFermionic Zero Modes of Supergravity Cosmic Strings
Recent developments in string theory suggest that cosmic strings could be formed at the end of brane inflation. Supergravity provides a realistic model to study the properties of strings arising in brane inflation. Whilst the properties of cosmic strings in flat space-time have been extensively studied there are significant complications in the presence of gravity. We study the effects of gravi...
