Soldent: a New Osteoinductive Product for Dental Implants

چکیده
Titanium and its alloys are widely used in dental implantology due to their low density, high resistance to corrosion, good mechanical properties and its biocompatibility [1]. However, sometimes patients are considered unsuitable for these interventions due to different reasons, some of them related to poor bone regeneration capacity. A better bone growth and therefore, a high implant osseointegration, can be achieved by implant surface functionalization through the application of bioactive coatings [2]. In this sense, new silica hybrid sol-gel coatings with biodegradable and osteoinductive characteristics were developed and applied onto Ti dental implants. This osteoinductive capability is attributed to their ability to release silicon compounds during the hydrolytic degradation of the sol-gel network [3]. Silicon is directly related with metabolic processes associated with the formation and calcification of bone [4]. It develops a biological crosslinking agent role, contributing to the resistance architecture and generation of connective tissues. Moreover, the silicon released in the Si(OH)4 form promotes the synthesis of collagen type I and enhances osteoblastic differentiation [5,6].

Nacre Topography Produces Higher Crystallinity in Bone than Chemically Induced Osteogenesis.
It is counterintuitive that invertebrate shells can induce bone formation, yet nacre, or mother of pearl, from marine shells is both osteoinductive and osteointegrative. Nacre is composed of aragonite (calcium carbonate) and induces production of vertebrate bone (calcium phosphate). Exploited by the Mayans for dental implants, this remarkable phenomenon has been confirmed in vitro and in vivo, ...

In recent years, the delivery of osteoinductive factors such as bone morphogenic proteins (BMPs) has become an alternative approach to traditional bone grafting due to their capacity to produce bone healing and new bone formation. BMP-2 has proved to possess the highest osteoinductive potential among BMPs. The case reported the clinical use of recombinant human BMP-2 for bilateral vertical alve...

The aim of the present study was to analyze the osteogenic potential of a biphasic calcium composite material (BCC) with a negative surface charge for maxillary sinus floor augmentation. In a 61 year old patient, the BCC material was used in a bilateral sinus floor augmentation procedure. Six months postoperative, a bone sample was taken from the augmented regions before two titanium implants w...

متن کاملStable biofunctionalization of hydroxyapatite (HA) surfaces by HA-binding/osteogenic modular peptides for inducing osteogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells.
Hydroxyapatite (HA), the principal component of bone mineral, shows osteoconductive properties when employed for coating metal implants as well as scaffold materials in synthetic bone grafts. With the goal of providing this material with osteoinductive capabilities to promote faster bone regeneration, we show an easy approach to functionalize HA implant surfaces and enrich them with osteoinduct...
