Adenovirus Infections in the Immunocompetent Host
نویسنده
چکیده
Adenoviruses are nonenveloped doublestranded DNA viruses that were fi rst isolated from adenoidal cells in 1953 as part of a project searching for the virus causing the common cold. There are currently 57 recognized serotypes of human adenovirus, which can be divided into the subgroups (or species) A to G. There is tropism among these subgroups, with subgroups A and F typically causing infection of the gastrointestinal tract, and subgroups B, C and E showing tropism for the respiratory tract. Epidemic keratoconjunctivitis is predominantly caused by serotypes of subgroup D.

The Repertoire of Adenovirus in Human Disease: The Innocuous to the Deadly
Adenoviridae is a family of double-stranded DNA viruses that are a significant cause of upper respiratory tract infections in children and adults. Less commonly, the adenovirus family can cause a variety of gastrointestinal, ophthalmologic, genitourinary, and neurologic diseases. Most adenovirus infections are self-limited in the immunocompetent host and are treated with supportive measures. Fa...
متن کاملAdenovirus as an emerging pathogen in immunocompromised patients.
Adenoviruses are non-enveloped, lytic, DNA viruses capable of infecting most animal species. There are 51 different human adenovirus serotypes, which are grouped from A to F on the basis of genome size, composition, homology and organization. Pathogenicity varies according to group and type, but infections are generally well controlled by the host immune system in immunocompetent individuals. H...

Adenovirus causes 5–10% of all childhood febrile illnesses [1]. In the immunocompetent host, infection is usually associated with mild, self-limiting upper respiratory tract syndromes. Most individuals have serologic evidence of prior adenoviral infection by age 10 [1]. Following initial infection, adenovirus establishes lifelong latent infection in lympho-epithelial tissues [2]. In immunocompr...
متن کاملChronic Invasive Fungal Granuloma–A Diagnostic Dilemma in an Immunocompetent Host
Introduction: Invasive fungal sinusitis, though considered to be rare entity, is nowadays frequently encountered, not only in immunocompromised patients but also in immunocompetent patients. The changing prevalence towards immunocompetent hosts is due to the indiscriminate usage of broad spectrum antibiotics, steroids, and immunosuppressive drugs. Diagnosing invasive fungal sinusitis should not...
متن کاملPresence of Coronavirus, Enterovirus and Adenovirus in Municipal Wastewater as Indicators of the Prevalence of Associated Viral Infections in the Community
Background and purpose: Adenoviruses and enteroviruses as intestinal viruses are detected in wastewater. Fecal shedding of 2019 novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) has been reported in some studies. Therefore, determining the presence of these viruses in wastewater is important to maintain public health and helps in predicting and preventing viral infections in a community. Materials and methods: I...
