Unique Cytoplasmic Membranes in Rous Sarcoma Virus-induced Tumors of a Subhuman Primate
نویسندگان
چکیده
Although the natural host of the Rous sarcoma virus (RSV) is the chicken, many strains of the virus have induced tumors in various mammals. Recently, a New World monkey, the marmoset (Saquinus sp.), was added to the list of animals susceptible to RSV oncogenesis (1). This report deals with a unique membranous cytoplasmic structure found in cells from two intracerebral and four subcutaneous tumors which developed following neonatal inoculation with the SchmidtRuppin strain of RSV.

Further Studies on Specific Transplantation Antigens in Rous Sarcoma of Mice
Mice allografted with different sarcomas, induced by the Schmidt-Ruppin variant of Rous sarcoma virus (RSV-SR), showed a resistance against subsequent isografting of 9 different Rous sarcomas. Transplantation resistance could also be induced by Rous mouse tumor cells x-irradiated with 8000 r or with cell-free tumor extracts, containing no demonstrable virus. No transplantation resistance could ...

Comparisons were made of the rate of incorporation of C'4-labeled L-arnino acids into protein of chicken embryo chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) infected with viruses that induce cell proliferation. A tumor virus (Rous sarcoma virus) and a nontumor virus (fowl pox virus) were used in these studies. In ovo studies of glycine-C14 incor poration into the protein of Rous sarcoma virus-induced tumors ...
متن کاملEffect of phorbol ester on growth of tumors induced by Rous sarcoma virus and on pp60src kinase activity in these tumors.
The inoculation of Rous sarcoma virus (RSV) into chickens results in the induction of tumors which usually grow progressively for several weeks and then regress. We have found that the direct injection of phorbol myristate acetate into growing RSV-induced sarcomas resulted in accelerated tumor regression in each of 11 cases studied. We further found that treatment of cultured Rous sarcoma cells...
متن کاملCellular immunity to Rous sarcoma in tumor-bearing chickens.
Chickens carrying primary sarcomas induced by SchmidtRuppin Rous virus were studied for possible cellular immunity against the tumor-specific transplantation antigens of those tumors by use of the colony inhibition test. The thymus cells of 7 out of 8 tested chickens were found to reduce signifi cantly the colony formation of Rous sarcoma cells while they had no similar effect on other types of...
متن کاملComparative Studies in Rous Sarcoma with Virus, Tumor Cells and Chick Embryo Cells Transformed in Vitro by Virus
Chick embryo fibroblasts infected with Rous sarcoma virus in vitro are rendered malignant for such cells produce typical Rous sarcomas when injected into susceptible chicks since the tumors produced predominantly retain the sex chromatin patterns of the donor cells when such cells are injected into a recipient of the opposite sex. However, examination of the sex chromatin of cells at the periph...
