Small and handy as to size the book is pleasantly written, making interesting reading. There aie many illustrations, most of them good, but a lew (such as Figs. 16 and 17) failing in the nature of tilings to convey much to inexperienced eyes. It is notably a book for the practitioner and senior student. The excuse f<Jr the work, in other words the preface to the first edition, is a wholesale quotation from The Adventurer, from which it is clear either that the author has been qualified for his task by Providence or
