The nuclear trial sign in thoracic herniated disks.

چکیده
PURPOSE AND METHODS Postmyelography CT studies of 84 patients with 114 thoracic herniated disks were reviewed for endplate irregularity, sclerosis, and/or disk-space calcification that could suggest a migratory path of the herniated fragment. RESULTS Abnormal straight or curvilinear densities (the "nuclear trial sign") were present at the level of the disk or endplate in 46% of the cases. MR studies of 35 thoracic herniated disks were also examined. Similar changes were likewise present in 44%. CONCLUSION The frequent occurrence of this finding in the mid and lower thoracic spine renders it a useful secondary sign for thoracic herniated disks, although false positives do occur.

Asymptomatic calcified herniated thoracic disks: CT recognition.
Among 270 CT scans of the thorax obtained over a 7-month period, four patients (1.5%) with calcified herniated thoracic disks were identified. Each of these patients presented with abnormal chest radiographs and had a CT examination for evaluation of suspected malignancy. None showed any signs or symptoms of thoracic spinal cord compression. The clinical significance of incidental thoracic disk...

UNLABELLED While reaffirming that the clinical exam still is the best medical practice, the author has proposed a new maneuver (Cecin's sign or "X" sign) to help the diagnosis of herniated lumbar disk, describing its biomechanical bases. However, the diagnostic performance of this maneuver has not been formally tested. PATIENTS AND METHODS The maneuver, which consists on the flexion of the lu...

STUDY DESIGN Case series and review of the literature. OBJECTIVE To review the management of giant calcified disks in our large cohort and compare with the existing literature. We discuss our surgical technique. METHODS Twenty-nine cases of herniated thoracic disk between 2000 and 2013 were reviewed. Eighteen patients were identified as having giant calcified thoracic disks, defined as diff...

OBJECTIVE To describe the use of intermittent cervical traction in managing 4 patients with cervical radiculopathy and large-volume herniated disks. CLINICAL FEATURES Four patients had neck pain radiating to the arm. The clinical examination was typical in all cases for radiculopathy of cervical origin. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the cervical spine revealed large-volume herniated dis...
متن کاملCT myelography of calcified thoracic neurilemmoma.
Radiographic demonstration of calcification within spinal canal tumors is rare [1] . The most common lesion of this type showing calcification is a meningioma. Other lesions showing calcification include neurofibromas, hemangioblastomas, neuroblastomas, ganglioneuromas, and herniated thoracic disks. Very rarely is calcification seen within neurilemomas [2, 3] , and, if present, it may be noted ...
