چکیده

Two organic deposits accumulated in a Kraft pulp mill during pulping of Eucalyptus globulus wood and throughout a TCF (totally chlorine free) bleaching sequence were characterized. One deposit was collected after cooking and an oxygen delignification stage while the other was collected after bleaching with hydrogen peroxide. The deposits were Soxhlet extracted with acetone, and the extracts redissolved in chloroform and subsequently analyzed by gas chromatography (GC) and GC-mass spectrometry (MS) using short and medium length high temperature capillary columns, respectively. On the other hand, the insoluble residues left after the acetone extraction were analyzed by Curie-point flash pyrolysis-GC-MS and by pyrolysis-methylation-GC-MS. The compounds identified in the deposits arise from the E. globulus wood lipophilic extractives that survive the pulping and bleaching processes. Triglycerides were completely hydrolyzed during the Kraft cooking and the fatty acids dissolved. Steroids (alcohols, hydrocarbons, ketones and esters) and waxes were the main components in the deposit collected after the oxygen delignification stage. After the bleaching with hydrogen peroxide, content of the waxes were reduced and fatty acids appeared. High amounts of fatty acids salts were also identified in the deposit collected after the oxygen stage, and in minor amounts in the deposit collected after hydrogen peroxide bleaching. In contrast, this deposit was mainly made up of high amounts of lignin-derived phenolic moieties.

Lipophilic extractives in process waters during manufacturing of totally chlorine free kraft pulp from eucalypt wood.

The chemical composition of lipophilic extractives from process waters throughout a totally chlorine free (TCF) bleaching sequence after kraft pulping of eucalypt wood has been studied. These compounds are among the most problematic wood constituents for both TCF and zero liquid effluent (ZLE) processes, since they tend to accumulate in circuits resulting in the formation of the so-called pitch...

Enzymatic removal of free and conjugated sterols forming pitch deposits in environmentally sound bleaching of eucalypt paper pulp.

Free and conjugated sterols are among the main compounds responsible for pitch deposition in the manufacture of wood chemical pulps, making difficult the implementation of totally chlorine free bleaching (TCF) and closure of bleach plant circuits. In this work, the suitability of oxidative enzymes in efficiently removing sterols from eucalypt pulps is revealed. The enzymatic treatment was appli...

Influence of Fungal Enzyme Pre-treatment on Totally Chlorine-free (TCF) Bleaching of Dimethyl Formamid Bagasse Pulp

A study was carried out on totally chlorine-free (TCF) bleachability of dimethyl formamide (DMF) treated bagasse pulps exposed to CZ-3 and FP 90031-sp strains of white-rot fungus Ceriporiopsis subvermispora. This process involved an oxygen and peroxide stage bleaching sequence. The effect of enzymatic stage on bleachability properties was studied and compared with control pulps, processed witho...

Clean Bleaching Engineering Practice for Bagasse Pulp: Totally Chlorine-Free and Elemental Chlorine-Free Bleaching Realized with the Same Production Line

The experimental research, process design principles, and engineering practice of a bagasse pulp production line that could run both totally chlorine-free (OP)Q(PO) and elemental chlorine-free (OP)D(EOP) bleaching sequences are discussed in this paper. Under specified process conditions, the oxygen delignification rate was up to 50% and the brightness of unbleached pulp increased. The (OP)Q(PO)...

Enzymes Improve Ecf Bleaching of Pulp

The delignification efficiency of different laccase enzymes was examined on the eucalyptus Kraft pulp. The laccase enzyme from Trametes versicolor showing the highest delignification efficiency was selected and used in the elemental chlorine-free bleaching sequence for improving the pulp bleachability. An appreciable reduction in chlorine dioxide consumption was also obtained. Further reduction...
