Triangulated Irregular Network Model from Mass Points

چکیده
Digital Terrain Modeling, the Triangulated Irregular Network (TIN) is a representation of a surface derived from irregularly spaced sample points and break line features. Paper deals with the basic concept of Delauney’s triangulation method with its practical approach in ArcGIS. The next section describes the process to convert mass points to TIN model and explores some of the basics of TIN Model with their data structure. The last section gives clear idea about its advantages and disadvantages over grid based model.

A Hierarchical Triangle-Based Model for Terrain Description
This article describes a new hierarchical model for representing a terrain. The model, called a Hierarchical Triangulated Irregular Network (HTIN), is a method for compression of spatial data and representation of a topographic surface at successively finer levels of detail. A HTIN is a hierarchy of triangle-based surface approximations, where each node, except for the root, is a triangulated i...
متن کاملMorse-Smale Decompositions for Modeling Terrain Knowledge
In this paper, we describe, analyze and compare techniques for extracting spatial knowledge from a terrain model. Specifically, we investigate techniques for extracting a morphological representation from a terrain model based on an approximation of a Morse-Smale complex. A Morse-Smale complex defines a decomposition of a topographic surface into regions with vertices at the critical points and...
متن کاملAnalysis and Comparison of Algorithms for Morse Decompositions on Triangulated Terrains
We consider the problem of extracting the morphology of a terrain represented as a Triangulated Irregular Network (TIN). Our reference framework to model terrain morphology is given by the descending and the ascending Morse complexes, which define a decomposition of the terrain through its critical points and integral lines. We review several algorithms proposed in the literature to extract des...
متن کاملAn E cient Volumetric Method for Building ClosedTriangular Meshes from 3 - D Image and Point
We present a volumetric method that can ee-ciently create triangular meshes from 3-D geometric data. This data can be presented in the form of images , prooles or unordered points. The mesh model can be created at diierent resolutions and can also be closed to make a true volumetric model.
متن کاملLossy Compression of Elevation Data
Generic lossy image compression algorithms, such as Said & Pearlman's, perform excellently on gridded terrain elevation data. For example, an average DEM compressed down to 0.1 bits per point has an RMS elevation error of 3 meters, although di erent DEMs ranged from 0.25 to 15 meters. This performance compares favorably to compressing with Triangulated Irregular Networks. Preliminary tests also...
