An MPI-based parallel code for high performance 3-D particle-in-cell ion source plasma simulation

چکیده
The paper presents parallel version of TRQR code, intended for ion source plasma simulation. The code is written using particle decomposition approach, and enables plasma potential, charge density, ion extraction current, etc. calculations. Parallelisation was done using widely accepted MPI platform. Additionally, the code has been rewritten and optimised in order to achieve better efficiency. The strongand soft-scaling properties of the parallel code are shown (tests were done using SMP machine), as well as some results of physical meaning. The code in its present form allows calculation involving 5 10 pseudo-ions at reasonable wall-clock time (circa 15 hours), which opens the gate for realistic physical conditions plasma calculations.

Application of MPI standard in computer modelling of the ion source plasma
Abstract In the paper the adaptation of the TRQR code to run on the massive parallel computer using MPI standard is described. We present the modification of the procedure used for the calculations of the potential spatial inside the plasma chamber of the ion source based on PIC (Particle In Cell) model and the Poisson equation. Parallelisation of the procedure enables us to reduce the CPU time...
متن کاملParallelization And I/O Optimization For A 3-D Plasma Simulation Code
LARED-P, a three-dimensional laser plasma electromagnitic simulation code, largely simulates the interaction of intense laser and plasma. It uses partical-in-cell simulation method and needs immense computing resource, one CPU can do nothing about the simulation. In this paper, LARED-P is parallelized based on MPI paradigm for distributed memory parallel computing environment. The large scale (...
متن کاملA Generic Approach for Developing Highly Scalable Particle-Mesh Codes for GPUs
We present a general framework for GPU-based low-latency data transfer schemes that can be used for a variety of particle-mesh algorithms [8]. This framework allows to hide the latency of the data transfer between GPU-accelerated computing nodes by interleaving it with the kernel execution on the GPU. We discuss as an example the fully relativistic particle-in-cell (PiC) code PIConGPU [5] curre...

XOOPIC [1] (Object Oriented Particle in Cell code for X11-based Unix computers) is presently a serial 2d 3v particle-in-cell plasma simulation. This effort focuses on using parallel and distributed processing to optimize the simulation for large problems. The benefits include increased capacity for memory intensive problems, and improved performance for processor-intensive problems. The MPI lib...

In this work, applicability of Particle in Cell-Monte Carlo Collisions (PIC-MCC) simulation method for better understanding of the plasma physical mechanisms and real important aspects of a plasma column driven by surface wave plasma discharges that is used in plasma antennas is examined. Via the implementation of geometry and physical parameters of the plasma column to an Object Oriented PIC-M...
