چکیده

The role of the microcirculation is increasingly being recognized in the pathophysiology of cardiovascular disease. The microcirculation is a major site of damage in most target organs of cardiovascular disease, such as the heart, brain, and kidney. Both functional and structural alterations in the small arteries, arterioles, and capillaries are the basis of target organ damage. Furthermore, the microcirculation is the major site of control of vascular resistance. This makes it a central player in the etiopathogenesis of diseases characterized by an increased vascular resistance, such as hypertension. Detailed mechanistic studies in both humans and animal models of cardiovascular disease have revealed the nature of microcirculatory dysfunction. Large-scale epidemiological studies in the last 2 decades have identified the associations among deranged microvascular perfusion, structure, target organ damage, and subsequent cardiovascular disease. Major technological developments now allow study of the microcirculation both in mechanistic and epidemiological studies. The purpose of this Brief Review is to provide a critical appraisal of these developments and their particular impact on hypertension research.

Mechanical deformation induces depolarization of neutrophils

The transition of neutrophils from a resting state to a primed state is an essential requirement for their function as competent immune cells. This transition can be caused not only by chemical signals but also by mechanical perturbation. After cessation of either, these cells gradually revert to a quiescent state over 40 to 120 min. We use two biophysical tools, an optical stretcher and a nove...

IMMUNOLOGICAL PHENOTYPING OF ACUTE LYMPHOBLASTIC LEUKEMIA ( ALL) IN UNIVERSITY AFFILIATED HOSPITALS: A PRELIMINARY REPORTON 50 PATIENTS

The peripheral blood and bone marrow samples from 50 patients with ALL were investigated by indirect immunofluorescent technique. The most common type of ALL was common-ALL (82%) and the least common was T-ALL (2%). Other subtypes of ALL were unclassified by our technique (8%), B-ALL (4%), and pre B-ALL (4%). The correlation between immunophenotype, clinical condition and hematological pro...

Impact of Aerobic Exercise on Restoration of Soleus and Gastrocnemius Muscles Microcirculations in Wistar Rats with Chronic Heart Failure

ABSTRACT         Background and Objective: Scientific evidence reveals that the density of skeletal muscle microcirculations decreases in the patients with chronic heart failure. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the impact of submaximal aerobic exercise training on restoration of fast/slow-twitch muscle fibers microcirculation in rats with myocard...

ULCERATIVE COLITIS AND HLA CLASS II PHENOTYPING IN IRAN

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a nonspecific acute and chronic inflammatory bowel disease that diffusely involves the colonic mucosa. The etiology of UC has not yet been elucidated fully. However, many studies have found that immunologic disorders may play a role in the pathogenesis of UC. In addition, due to an increased frequency of UC in families, especially an increased monozygotic compared...

Isolation and Phenotyping of Normal Mouse Liver Dendritic Cells by an Improved Method

Introduction Dendritic cells (DCs) are bone marrow-derived cells, which migrate to lymphoid and non-lymphoid organs via blood. Liver DCs are believed to play an important role in the regulation of hepatic allograft acceptance. However, because of inherent difficulties in isolating adequate numbers of DCs from liver, limited information is available on the phenotype and functions of liver DCs. ...
