Automatic Labeling of Semantic Roles
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present a system for identifying the semantic relationships, or semantic roles, filled by constituents of a sentence within a semantic frame. Given an input sentence and a target word and frame, the system labels constituents with either abstract semantic roles such as AGENT or PATIENT, or more domain-specific semantic roles such as SPEAKER, MESSAGE, and TOPIC. The system is based on statistical classifiers trained on roughly 50,000 sentences that were hand-annotated with semantic roles by the FrameNet semantic labeling project. We then parsed each training sentence into a syntactic tree and extracted various lexical and syntactic features, including the phrase type of each constituent, its grammatical function, and position in the sentence. These features were combined with knowledge of the predicate verb, noun, or adjective, as well as information such as the prior probabilities of various combinations of semantic roles. We used various lexical clustering algorithms to generalize across possible fillers of roles. Test sentences were parsed, were annotated with these features, and were then passed through the classifiers. Our system achieves 82% accuracy in identifying the semantic role of pre-segmented constituents. At the more difficult task of simultaneously segmenting constituents and identifying their semantic role, the system achieved 65% precision and 61% recall. Our study also allowed us to compare the usefulness of different features and featurecombination methods in the semantic role labeling task. We also explore the integration of role labeling with statistical syntactic parsing, and attempt to generalize to predicates unseen in the training data.

Automatic identification of words with semantic roles (such as Agent, Patient, Source, etc.) in sentences and attaching correct semantic roles to them, may lead to improvement in many natural language processing tasks including information extraction, question answering, text summarization and machine translation. Semantic role labeling systems usually take advantage of syntactic parsing and th...

Abstract Extracting semantic roles is one of the major steps in representing text meaning. It refers to finding the semantic relations between a predicate and syntactic constituents in a sentence. In this paper we present a semantic role labeling system for Persian, using memory-based learning model and standard features. Our proposed system implements a two-phase architecture to first identify...

As a task in SensEval-3, Automatic Labeling of Semantic Roles is to identify frame elements within a sentence and tag them with appropriate semantic roles given a sentence, a target word and its frame. We apply Maximum Entropy classification with feature sets of syntactic patterns from parse trees and officially attain 80.2% precision and 65.4% recall. When the frame element boundaries are give...

The goal of my doctoral thesis is to automatically generate interrogative sentences from descriptive sentences of Turkish biology text. We employ syntactic and semantic approaches to parse descriptive sentences. Syntactic and semantic approaches utilize syntactic (constituent or dependency) parsing and semantic role labeling systems respectively. After parsing step, question statements whose an...

XARA is a rule-based PropBank labeler for Alpino XML files, written in Java. I used XARA in my research on semantic role labeling in a Dutch corpus to bootstrap a dependency treebank with semantic roles. Rules in XARA are based on XPath expressions, which makes it a versatile tool that is applicable to other treebanks as well. In addition to automatic role annotation, XARA is able to extract tr...
