Pseudomonas aeruginosa: Multi-Drug-Resistance Development and Treatment Options
نویسندگان
چکیده
Antibiotic resistance is a worldwide problem of major importance. Isolations in some countries of multi-drug-resistant (resistant to three or more classes of antimicrobials), extensively-drug-resistant (resistant to all but one or two classes) or even pan-drugresistant (resistant to all available classes) Gram-negative pathogens are causing therapeu‐ tic problems andin the same timeare posing infection control issues in many hospitals. In fact, numerous studies highlight the link between multi-drug-resistance and increased morbidity and mortality, increased length of hospital stay and higher hospital costs [1-4].

The Determination of Metallo-Beta-Lactamase Enzymes Prevalence in Pseudomonas Aeruginosa using Etest and their Antibiogram Patterns in Kermanshah, Iran
Background & Aims: One of the main causes of nosocomial infection is pseudomonas aeruginosa and carbapenems is one of the most important classes of antibiotics used in the treatment of infections caused by this bacteria. Metallo-beta-lactamase (MBL) production is one of the most important mechanisms of resistance to carbapenems and their increased prevalence is a serious threat to treatment of ...

متن کاملAssociation Between Metallo-β-lactamases and Integrons with Multi-Drug Resistance in Pseudomonas aeruginosa Isolates
Pseudomonas aeruginosa is among the most important pathogens in the nosocomial infections. A genetic mobile element, the integron, is one of the major agents involved in dissemination of multi-drug resistance among gram negative bacteria. During a descriptive study from October 2009 to August 2010, some 130 P. aeruginosa clinical isolates were collected from different wards of three hospitals...

Introduction: Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacterium has a high resistance to most anti-Pseudomonas drugs, which has caused concern all over the world. Therefore, the effect of lytic bacteriophages on Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates with multi-drug resistance is investigated in this research. Methods and Materials: Different strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacterium were identified and isolated fr...
متن کاملThe Periplasmic Protein TolB as a Potential Drug Target in Pseudomonas aeruginosa
The Gram-negative bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the most dreaded pathogens in the hospital setting, and represents a prototype of multi-drug resistant "superbug" for which effective therapeutic options are very limited. The identification and characterization of new cellular functions that are essential for P. aeruginosa viability and/or virulence could drive the development of ant...

Introduction: Antibiotic resistance in Pseudomonas aeruginosa has become a worldwide problem, and is leading to multi-drug resistance (MDR: Multiple drug resistance). Therefore, this study aimed to determine the antibiotic strain patterns of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated from various clinical specimens of patients in hospitals in Yazd. Methods: In this descriptive cross- sectional study, 90...
