چکیده

Plasma Renin Activity in Acute Cerebrovascular Disease: Preliminary Communication • A preliminary study of plasma renin activity was made in 22 patients with acute cerebrovascular disease. Eight of 12 patients with intracranial hemorrhage had plasma renin activity values above the normal range of 30 to 330 ng/100 ml plasma, but only one of ten patients with ischemic cerebrovascular disease had increased plasma renin activity. The mean values for the two groups were, respectively, 489 and 190 ng/100 ml plasma (P for difference < 0.001). Ten days later plasma renin activity was normal in each of three patients with intracranial hemorrhage. The acute increase of plasma renin activity may have been associated with altered activity of the autonomic nervous system, and may be related to posthemorrhagic vascular events such as vasospasm. Haemodynamic responses to exercise and acute beta-receptor blockade in renin sub-types of essential hypertension.

1. Haemodynamic and renin responses to dynamic exercise before and after intravenous beta-adrenoreceptor blockade with propranolol were compared in twenty-one patients with essential hypertension and either high (n = 7), normal (n = 7) or low plasma renin activity (n = 7). 2. Renin and heart-rate responses to exercise and beta-receptor blockade diminished from high-renin to normal and to low-re...

Renin release during acute reduction of arterial pressure in normotensive subjects and patients with renovascular hypertension.

In normotensive subjects, acute reduction of mean arterial pressure to from 60 to 75 mm Hg by infusion of sodium nitroprusside caused significant increase in renin activity of renal venous plasma and also in the renal-systemic difference of renin activity. At the same time, the products of the renal-systemic difference of renin activity and renal plasma flow increased significantly, whereas ren...

Plasma renin and angiotensinogen levels in pathological states associated with oedema.

It is now generally accepted that hyperaldosteronism is associated with such oedematous states as the nephrotic syndrome, cirrhosis of the liver, and congestive heart failure (Wolff et al., 1964); that the renin-angiotensin system plays an important role in the regulation of aldosterone secretion (Genest et al., 1960; Laragh et al., 1960; Carpenter, Davis, and Ayers, 1961; Bartter et al., 1961;...
