چکیده

Pairwise particle interactions arise in diverse physical systems ranging from insect swarms to selfassembly of nanoparticles. This letter develops a fundamental theory for the morphology of patterns in two dimensions which can range from ring and annular states to more complex spot patterns with N-fold symmetry. Many of these patterns have been observed in nature although a general theory has been lacking, in particular how small changes to the interaction potential can lead to large changes in self-organized state. Emergence of these patterns is explained by a stability analysis of a ring solution. This analysis leads to analytic formulae involving the interaction potential that provide detailed information about the structure of complex equilibria.

Stability of ring patterns arising from 2D particle interactions

Pairwise particle interactions arise in diverse physical systems ranging from insect swarms to self-assembly of nanoparticles. In the presence of long-range attraction and short-range repulsion, such systems can exhibit bound states. We uses linear stability analysis of a ring equilibrium to classify the morphology of patterns in two dimensions. Conditions are identified that assure the wellpos...

Mathematical modeling the effect of catalyst initial shape and the crack pattern in olefin copolymerization

A two-dimensional (2D) single particle model for the copolymerization of propylene-ethylene with heterogeneous Ziegler-Natta catalyst is developed. The model accounts for the effects of the initial shape of the catalyst and carck/ pore patterns on the copolymer composition, polymerization rate and the average molecular weight properties. The spherical and oblate ellipsoidal shapes of catalyst p...

Ring patterns and their stability in 2D kinematic particle aggregation models

We consider a kinematic particle interaction model with broad applications ranging from insect swarms to self-assembly of nanoparticles. With very simple pairwise interaction models possessing both attraction and repulsion, we show a suite of complex 2D ring-like patterns, many of which have not been documented in the literature. Emergence of these patterns is explained by a stability analysis ...

The road to catastrophe: stability and collapse in 2D driven particle systems

Self-organization of driven particle systems is an emerging research area spanning many fields, from complex biological organisms to cooperative control of unmanned vehicles. Understanding the collective properties of such systems is significant both for naturally occurring aggregates and because the knowledge gained can be used as building blocks for the design of artificial ones. We model sel...
