Generation of Desired Emergent Behavior in Swarm of Micro-Robots

چکیده
Emergent behavior of swarm-like-systems results from interactions among system’s components and cannot be directly preprogrammed. This kind of behavior is very efficient, flexible and is closely related with collective (swarm-) intelligence. In the presented work we consider a derivation of local rules, creating such interactions, that lead to desired emergent behavior. As an example of collective emergence we choose forming spatial groups and assembling microobjects by a swarm of microrobots.

Modeling Complex Emergent Discrete Event Systems: A Case Study In Robotic Swarm Motion
Complex Emergent Discrete Event Systems (CEDES) are those where sequence of local events between simple agents or agents and their environment lead to the emergence of overall behavior following certain design goals. Such systems are proved to be robust and scaleable and therefore find many applications in real world. However they require sound mathematical models that would guarantee desired e...

Swarm robotics systems can be categorized as discrete event systems (DES) and can therefore be subjected to DES modeling and analysis tools. Taking on the same approach and considering successful application of matrices to model complex DES like flexible manufacturing systems, we present here a novel matrix formulation to model emergent coherent movement of a wirelessly connected swarm of robot...

A manufacturing workcell model employs behavior-based swarm robots whose emergent behavior successfully performs the workcell’s required materials handling without central planning. Swarm robots are groups of autonomous mobile robots whose sensory-driven state behavior produces emergent group functionality not characteristic of the individual robots. Processing machines within the workcell broa...

Utilizing the collective behavior of a population of interacting individuals, based on rather simple local algorithms, is a promising approach for achieving complex goals. We use an onboard online evolutionary model, based on finite Moore automata, to develop collective behavior in an artificial swarm of micro-robots. Experiments have been made in simulation to achieve Collision Avoidance. The ...
