چکیده

We discuss image reconstruction algorithms for diffuse optical tomography that allow utilization of extremely large data sets. Image reconstruction is performed with experimental data obtained with the use of a CCD camera-based noncontact imager. We demonstrate that more than 10 measurements can be acquired and utilized. This is two orders of magintude or more larger than the data sets which are typically used in diffuse optical imaging.

Experimental demonstration of an analytic method for image reconstruction in optical diffusion tomography with large data sets.

We report the first experimental test of an analytic image reconstruction algorithm for optical tomography with large data sets. Using a continuous-wave optical tomography system with 10(8) source-detector pairs, we demonstrate the reconstruction of an absorption image of a phantom consisting of a highly scattering medium containing absorbing inhomogeneities.

Multiple projection optical diffusion tomography with plane wave illumination.

We describe a new data collection scheme for optical diffusion tomography in which plane wave illumination is combined with multiple projections in the slab imaging geometry. Multiple projection measurements are performed by rotating the slab around the sample. The advantage of the proposed method is that the measured data are more compatible with the dynamic range of most commonly used detecto...

A matrix-free algorithm for multiple wavelength fluorescence tomography.

In the recent years, there has been an increase in applications of non-contact diffusion optical tomography. Especially when the objective is the recovery of fluorescence targets. The non-contact acquisition systems with the use of a CCD-camera produce much denser sampled boundary data sets than fibre-based systems. When model-based reconstruction methods are used, that rely on the inversion of...

Transport- and diffusion-based optical tomography in small domains: a comparative study.

We compare reconstructions based on the radiative transport and diffusion equations in optical tomography for media of small sizes. While it is well known that the diffusion approximation is less accurate to describe light propagation in such media, it has not yet been shown how this inaccuracy affects the images obtained with model-based iterative image reconstructions schemes. Using synthetic...

Fluorescent optical tomography with large data sets.

In recent years, optical tomography (OT) of highly scattering biological samples has increasingly relied on noncontact CCD-based imaging devices that can record extremely large data sets, with up to 10(9) independent measurements per sample. Reconstruction of such data sets requires fast algorithms. The latter have been developed and applied experimentally in our previous work to imaging of the...
