چکیده

• Calculation of cardiac output from dye dilution curves as described by Hamilton has been well verified.' 3 The technique of calculating the cardiac output with the use of a planimeter or replotting on log paper is tedious and-often inexact. Furthermore, the necessary long delay between the dye injection and the availability of the result has limited the use of this technique in medical research. In order to circumvent these difficulties, a new technique has been developed in which a general purpose analog computer is used for automatic computation of cardiac output and the mean transit time. Removal of the recirculation hump as well as the correction for baseline offset are accomplished automatically, and the results are obtained within 20 seconds after the presentation of the dye curve to the computer. The computer circuitry and its operation are fully described and computer results compared to those obtained by the usual Stewart-Hamilton method.

Determination of relative changes in cardiac output from noncalibrated earpiece dye-dilution curves.

Coomassie Blue dye and the photoelectric earpiece" make it comparatively simple to obtain successive dye-dilution curves without arterial puncture. If the response of the recording system is linear to blood dye concentration and the vascular content of the ear is constant, it should be possible to measure relative changes in cardiac output without calibrating the corves. The purpose of this pap...

CARDIO--a Lotus 1-2-3 based computer program for rapid calculation of cardiac output from dye or thermal dilution curves.

We have developed a menu-driven computer program (CARDIO), based on a Lotus 1-2-3 template and a series of macrocommands, that rapidly and semiautomatically calculates cardiac output from dye or thermal dilution curves. CARDIO works with any dye or thermal dilution recorder with an analog output, any analog to digital (A-to-D) conversion system, and any computer capable of running Lotus 1-2-3 v...

Value of Continuous Photoelectric Recording of Dye Curves in the Estimation of Cardiac Output

In order to test photoelectric recording of dye curves, simultaneous determinations of cardiac output were made in 48 patients with heart disease with the Fick and dye-dilution technics. The dye curves were recorded with a Colson densitometer following either intrathoracic or antecubital injection of dye. Both Evans blue and indoeyanine green dyes were employed. Satisfactory agreement was noted...

A mathematical model of dilution curves for flow study.

THE PURPOSE of this paper is to present a mathematical model of dilution curves obtained by precordial detection of concentration of an intravenously injected radioactive tracer. The analysis makes possible formulation of equations relating parameters of the curve to cofunctions of the curve, such as cardiac output, central circulating blood volume, and volume of heart chambers. The presentatio...

The dye dilution method for describing the central circulation. An analysis of factors shaping the time-concentration curves.

T HE method for measuring cardiac output based on the "dye dilution" principle of Stewart and Hamilton" 2 involves the injection of a known amount of colored substance into a vein and collection of serial samples of blood from an artery for determination of the concentration of dye. Other substances have been used for injection, such as salt solution and radioactive cells.3' 4 The validity of t...
