Incremental construction of classifier and discriminant ensembles

چکیده
We discuss approaches to incrementally construct an ensemble. The first constructs an ensemble of classifiers choosing a subset from a larger set, and the second constructs an ensemble of discriminants, where a classifier is used for some classes only. We investigate criteria including accuracy, significant improvement, diversity, correlation, and the role of search direction. For discriminant ensembles, we test subset selection and trees. Fusion is by voting or by a linear model. Using 14 classifiers on 38 data sets, incremental search finds small, accurate ensembles in polynomial time. The discriminant ensemble uses a subset of discriminants and is simpler, interpretable, and accurate. We see that an incremental ensemble has higher accuracy than bagging and random subspace method; and it has a comparable accuracy to AdaBoost, but fewer classifiers. 2009 Elsevier Inc. An experimental study on diversity for bagging and boosting with linear classifiers
In classifier combination, it is believed that diverse ensembles have a better potential for improvement on the accuracy than nondiverse ensembles. We put this hypothesis to a test for two methods for building the ensembles: Bagging and Boosting, with two linear classifier models: the nearest mean classifier and the pseudo-Fisher linear discriminant classifier. To estimate diversity, we apply n...
متن کاملAnew Active Learning Techniqueusing Furthestnearestneighbour Criterion for K-nnand Svmclassifiers
Active learning is a supervised learning method that is based on the idea that a machine learning algorithm can achieve greater accuracy with fewer labelled training images if it is allowed to choose the image from which it learns. Facial age classification is a technique to classify face images into one of the several predefined age groups. The proposed study applies an active learning approac...
متن کاملOptimized Seizure Detection Algorithm: A Fast Approach for Onset of Epileptic in EEG Signals Using GT Discriminant Analysis and K-NN Classifier
Background: Epilepsy is a severe disorder of the central nervous system that predisposes the person to recurrent seizures. Fifty million people worldwide suffer from epilepsy; after Alzheimer’s and stroke, it is the third widespread nervous disorder. Objective: In this paper, an algorithm to detect the onset of epileptic seizures based on the analysis of brain electrical signals (EEG) has b...
متن کاملFisher Discriminant Analysis (FDA), a supervised feature reduction method in seismic object detection
Automatic processes on seismic data using pattern recognition is one of the interesting fields in geophysical data interpretation. One part is the seismic object detection using different supervised classification methods that finally has an output as a probability cube. Object detection process starts with generating a pickset of two classes labeled as object and non-object and then selecting ...
متن کاملFace Recognition by Cognitive Discriminant Features
Face recognition is still an active pattern analysis topic. Faces have already been treated as objects or textures, but human face recognition system takes a different approach in face recognition. People refer to faces by their most discriminant features. People usually describe faces in sentences like ``She's snub-nosed'' or ``he's got long nose'' or ``he's got round eyes'' and so like. These...
