چکیده

The last version of Edwin Land's retinex model for human vision's lightness and color constancy has been implemented. Previous research has established the mathematical foundations of Land's retinex but has not examined speciic design issues and their eeects on the properties of the retinex operation. Here we describe the signal processing design of the retinex. We nd that the placement of the logarithmic function is important and produces best results when placed after the surround formation. We also nd that best rendition is obtained for a \canonical" gain-ooset applied after the retinex operation.

Object Detection based Weighted-Center Surround Difference

Intelligent traffic surveillance technology is an issue in the field of traffic data analysis. Therefore, we need the technology to detect moving objects in real-time while there are variations in background and natural light. In this paper, we proposed a Weighted-Center Surround Difference method for object detection in outdoor environments. The proposed system detects objects using the salien...

Center-surround inhibition and facilitation as a function of size and contrast at multiple levels of visual motion processing.

Visual context often plays a crucial role in visual processing. In the domain of visual motion processing, the response to a stimulus presented to a neuron's classical receptive field can be modulated by presenting stimuli to its surround. The nature of these center-surround interactions is often inhibitory; the neural response decreases when the same direction of motion is presented to center ...

Retinal ganglion cells--spatial organization of the receptive field reduces temporal redundancy.

According to the 'redundancy reduction' hypothesis, a visual neuron removes correlations from an image to reduce redundancy in the spike train, thus increasing the efficiency of information coding. However, all elaborations of this general hypothesis have treated spatial and temporal correlations separately. To investigate how a retinal ganglion cell responds to combined spatial and temporal co...

Application of Signal Processing Tools for Fault Diagnosis in Induction Motors-A Review-Part II

The use of efficient signal processing tools (SPTs) to extract proper indices for the fault detection in induction motors (IMs) is the essential part of any fault recognition procedure. The 2nd part of this two-part paper is, in turn, divided into two parts. Part two covers the signal processing techniques which can be applied to non-stationary conditions. In this paper, all utilized SPTs for n...

Commentary Center-surround Antagonism Mediated by Proton Signaling at the Cone Photoreceptor Synapse

The identity of the messenger that carries the inhibitory surround receptive field signal from horizontal cells to cone photoreceptors has eluded retinal neurobiologists for nearly three decades. Encoded in horizontal cell membrane potential, the feedback signal presynaptically inhibits neurotransmitter release at the cone terminal. An interesting collection of candidate mechanisms and messenge...
