Firi?, and Silvicultu . Recent Advances in the Silvicultural Use of Prescribed Fire

چکیده
Although the silvicultural use of prescribed fire has been researched for almost 70 years, new advances are still being made. These advaace~ are primarily the result of (1) a better under%andktg of fire as an ecological process and (2) the use of this knowledge to restore declining ecosystems, save threatened and endangered species, enhance natural beauty, and regulate composition and structure of plak communit ies . The role of growing-season f ires , avoided in the past century, in shaping the composi t ion and structure of longleaf pine (Pinu pulwti) easystcms has recently been established. Silvicultural prescriptions for using prescribed fire to benefit oak (Quercur spp.) regeneration on good sites have been developed. Prescribed fire is being used to restore the historical character and heal th of ponderosa pine (P. ponderosu) ecosystems in the sduthwestem United States and to regenerate Table Mountain (P. pungens) and pitch pine (P. rigida) ecosystems in the southern Appalachian Mountains. Guidelines also have been developed for using prescribed fire to thin dense natural stands of loblolly pine (P. tie&). Ongoing research continues to identify new uses of prescribed tire to enable ecosystemmanagement to become a more fully implemented paradigm in the twenty-first century. keywords: biodiversity, ecosystem restoration, oak regeneration, prescribed burning, thinning. Investigating Effects of a Prescribed Spring Fire on Symbiosis between Mycorrhiza Fungi and Range Plant Species
Fire is one of the incorporate vegetation management practices for grasslands and semi-arid rangelands. It may affect symbiotic relationship between range plants and mycorrhiza. Accordingly, this research was aimed to investigate the effects of a spring prescribed fire on the symbiotic relationships between mycorrhiza and 6 plant species. The study was conducted in a semi-arid steppe rangeland ...
متن کاملEvaluation of the effects of silvicultural and fuels treatments on potential fire behaviour in Sierra Nevada mixed-conifer forests
Fire suppression has increased fuel loads and fuel continuity in mixed-conifer ecosystems, resulting in forest structures that are vulnerable to catastrophic fire. This paper models fire behaviour in a mixed-conifer forest and investigates how silvicultural and fuels treatments affect potential fire behaviour. The computer program FARSITE was used to spatially and temporally model fire growth a...

At present, there is no conventional scientific method to evaluate the area of the burnt regions of forests and in this field, the related organizations use different methods and variables. Also, the speed in performing the processes of area computing and damage evaluation, especially in the extensive damaged forest regions is very slow; consequently, the expression of results takes more ti...

متن کاملاثرات بلندمدت آتشسوزی بر ترکیب گونههای چوبی و تجدید حیات طبیعی آنها در جنگلهای هیرکانی (مطالعه موردی: جنگل لساکوتی تنکابن، استان مازندران)
This current research was investigated the long – term effects of fire on vegetation and regeneration of beech (Fagus orientalis L.) in the mountain forest in Lesakoti forests in Tonekabon city in north of Iran. In both of burnt and unburnt areas, 30 plots 1000m2 and in total 60 sampling plots were identified using random-systematic 100 m × 150 m grid and density and DBH of trees and densi...
