Speed Measurement by Optical Techniques

چکیده

The most obvious optical method for measuring the speed of a moving object is to use the Doppler effect: light reflected from the moving object will be shifted in frequency on proportion to the line of sight velocity of the object. While we are familiar with examples in the radio domain (such as police traffic radar and Doppler weather radar) and with acoustic waves (the apparent change in pitch of a passing siren), demonstrating the Doppler effect optically is not so trivial a matter. The primary reasons for this are:

Experimental Investigation of the Surface Roughness in Grinding of BK7 Optical Glass in Brittle Mode

Surface roughness is a significant parameter which determines the efficiency of optical components. Surface damages induced by grinding strongly influence the mechanical strength and optical quality of optical glasses. It is meaningful to rapid evaluate the surface roughness through the measurement of different grinding parameters. In this study, a cup diamond wheel (D64) is used in grinding pr...

Towards Measurement of Polarization Properties of Skin using the Ellipsometry Technique

Introduction: The human skin is an active medium from the optical point of view. Therefore, the diagnostic and therapeutic techniques employing light are increasing. Current optical techniques are based on the measurement of the intensity of reflected absorbed or backscattered light from or within skin. Studies have shown that biological tissues, and in particular skin, demonstrate polarization...

Increasing the Accuracy of Blood Hematocrit Measurement by Triplicate Wavelength Photoplethysmography Method

Background and objectives: The importance of continuous monitoring and rapid and accurate informing of changes in blood components (e.g., percentage of hematocrit [HCT]), especially in acute conditions, has motivated researchers to use non-invasive measurement methods. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the association between blood HCT and photoplethysmographic signal and the possibility ...

Comparison of Fast Photodetector Response Measurements by Optical Heterodyne and Pulse Response Techniques

Abstrad--Scalar measurements at 1.3 pm of high-speed ( > 20 GHz -3-dB optical bandwidth) photodetector transfer function magnitudes by swept frequency and short pulse (<3-ps FWHM) response techniques are presented and shown to be in excellent agreement to beyond 30 GHz. Scalar deconvolution is used to obtain photodetector response from the pulse response measurements with effects of the measure...
