On The Complexity Of Hamel Bases Of Infinite Dimensional Banach Spaces

چکیده
We call a subset S of a topological vector space V linearly Borel, if for every finite number n, the set of all linear combinations of S of length n is a Borel subset of V . It will be shown that a Hamel base of an infinite dimensional Banach space can never be linearly Borel. This answers a question of Anatolij Plichko. In the sequel, let X be any infinite dimensional Banach space. A subset S of X is called linearly Borel (w.r.t. X), if for every positive integer n, the set of all linear combinations with n vectors of S is a Borel subset of X. Since X is a complete metric space, X is a Baire space, i.e., a space in which non-empty open sets are not meager (cf. [1, Section 3.9]). Moreover, all Borel subsets of X have the Baire property, i.e., for each Borel set S, there is an open set O such that O∆S is meager, where O∆S = (O \ S) ∪ (S \ O). This is already enough to prove the following. Theorem. If X is an infinite dimension Banach space and H is a Hamel base of X, then H is not linearly Borel (w.r.t. X). I would like to thank the Swiss National Science Foundation for its support during the period in which the research for this paper has been done. On The Complexity Of Hamel Bases 2 Proof: Let X be any infinite dimensional Banach space over the field F and let H be any Hamel base of X. On Bases in Banach Spaces
We investigate various kinds of bases in infinite dimensional Banach spaces. In particular, we consider the complexity of Hamel bases in separable and non-separable Banach spaces and show that in a separable Banach space a Hamel basis cannot be analytic, whereas there are non-separable Hilbert spaces which have a discrete and closed Hamel basis. Further we investigate the existence of certain c...
متن کاملNon - separable Banach spaces with non - meager Hamel basis
We show that an infinite-dimensional complete linear space X has: • a dense hereditarily Baire Hamel basis if |X| ≤ c; • a dense non-meager Hamel basis if |X| = κ = 2 for some cardinal κ. According to Corollary 3.4 of [BDHMP] each infinite-dimensional separable Banach space X has a non-meager Hamel basis. This is a special case of Theorem3.3 of [BDHMP], asserting that an infinite-dimensional Ba...
متن کاملMangasarian-Fromovitz and Zangwill Conditions For Non-Smooth Infinite Optimization problems in Banach Spaces
In this paper we study optimization problems with infinite many inequality constraints on a Banach space where the objective function and the binding constraints are Lipschitz near the optimal solution. Necessary optimality conditions and constraint qualifications in terms of Michel-Penot subdifferential are given.
متن کاملInfinite Asymptotic Games
We study infinite asymptotic games in Banach spaces with an F.D.D. and prove that analytic games are determined by characterising precisely the conditions for the players to have winning strategies. These results are applied to characterise spaces embeddable into lp sums of finite dimensional spaces, extending results of Odell and Schlumprecht, and to study various notions of homogeneity of bas...
متن کاملLocal Automorphisms of Operator Algebras on Banach Spaces
In this paper we extend a result of Šemrl stating that every 2-local automorphism of the full operator algebra on a separable infinite dimensional Hilbert space is an automorphism. In fact, besides separable Hilbert spaces, we obtain the same conclusion for the much larger class of Banach spaces with Schauder bases. The proof rests on an analogous statement concerning the 2-local automorphisms ...
