چکیده

Two soft lithography based fabrication techniques were employed for fabricating mechanically independent, freely suspended polymer microstructure from poly(n-propyl methacrylate) (PPMA) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). Both methods involve a micromolding process followed by thermal bonding to the substrate. The first method, sacrificial layer micromolding, uses a water-soluble sacrificial layer, allowing functional structures to be released by immersion in water. The second method, patterned substrate micromolding, uses a permanent substrate patterned via photolithography. Functional regions of the polymer structures are suspended over the voids in the photoresist pattern. The processes have been applied to the fabrication of polymer microstructures with a variety of geometries for specific applications. Devices have included microcantilevers, beams, and other more complicated microstuctures. The thermal molding process is conceivably applicable to the fabrication of microstructures from a wide variety of thermoplastic polymers, allowing material selection to be tailored based on application.

Polymer particle-based micromolding to fabricate novel microstructures.

Conventional micromolding provides rapid and low-cost methods to fabricate polymer microstructures, but has limitations when producing sophisticated designs. To provide more versatile micromolding techniques, we developed methods based on filling micromolds with polymer microparticles, as opposed to polymer melts, to produce microstructures composed of multiple materials, having complex geometr...

3-d Patterned Microstructures Using Inclined Uv Exposure and Metal Transfer Micromolding

We report a fabrication approach for three-dimensional (3-D) microstructures having functional metal patterns by using inclined UV lithography and 3-D metal transfer micromolding. Inclined rotational UV exposure using SU-8 has been exploited to simultaneously generate gradually varying 3-D structures with different heights in a single mask. For 3-D metal patterning, a metal transfer micromoldin...

Patterning polymer light-emitting diodes by micromolding in capillary

Here we describe a method of patterning electroluminescent (EL) polymers using micromolding in capillary (MIMIC). MIMIC is the one of the lithographic methods based on the microfludics among the soft lithography using a patterned poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) elastomer. The patterned microstructures of poly(dioctylfluorene) (PDOF), poly(p-phenylenevinylene) (PPV), and poly(2methoxy-5-2 0-ethylh...

Formation of spatially and geometrically controlled three-dimensional tissues in soft gels by sacrificial micromolding.

Patterned three-dimensional (3D) cell culture models aim to more accurately represent the in vivo architecture of a tissue for the purposes of testing drugs, studying multicellular biology, or engineering functional tissues. However, patterning 3D multicellular structures within very soft hydrogels (<500 Pa) that mimic the physicochemical environment of many tissues remains a challenge for exis...

Responsive micromolds for sequential patterning of hydrogel microstructures.

Microscale hydrogels have been shown to be beneficial for various applications such as tissue engineering and drug delivery. A key aspect in these applications is the spatial organization of biological entities or chemical compounds within hydrogel microstructures. For this purpose, sequentially patterned microgels can be used to spatially organize either living materials to mimic biological co...
