چکیده

The Stanford Linear Collider was designed to accommodate polarized electron beams. A gallium arsenide-based photon emission source will provide a beam of longitudinally polarized electrons of about 40 percent polarization. A system of bend magnets and a superconducting solenoid will be used to rotate the spins so that the polarization is preserved while the 1.21 GeV electrons are stored in the damping ring. Another set of bend magenets and two superconducting solenoids orient the spin vectors so that longitudinal polarization of the electrons is achieved at the collision point with the unpolarized positrons. A system to monitor the polarization based on Moller and Compton scattering will be used. Spin physics with longitudinally polarized electrons uses the measurement of the left-right asymmetry to provide tests of the Standard Model. The uncertainty in the measurement is precise enough to be sensitive to the effects of particles which can not be produced directly in the machines we have today.

Plans for Polarized Beams at the Slc*

Precision tests of the electroweak interactions will soon be possible at the SLC and LEP. The SLC will be capable of providing longitudinal polarization of one incoming beam, the electrons, for such tests. Plans at the SLC to provide and monitor these beams are described, and some physics objectives are discussed. Invited talk presented at the Workshop on Tests of Electroweak Theories, Polarize...

e+e- Collisions at the SLC - the Left-Right Asymmetry

Recent progress with the SLC as a prototype linear collider for high energy e+ecollisions is reviewed. Recent advances in the production of high intensity beams of polarized e-s are also discussed. The SLD Collaboration has embarked on a precision measurement of the left-right polarization asymmetry ALR at the Z pole with polarized electrons. Results and future plans are presented. 1. The SLC P...

Tests of QCD with Polarized Electrons ∗

We present three measurements that exploit the highly-polarized incident electrons of the SLC facility to probe QCD and the hadronization process. We observe preliminary evidence for leading particle production in hadronic decays of the Z0 to light-quark pairs. In a high-purity sample of quark jets, the momentum spectra of p, Λ0, and K− are harder than those of p̄, Λ̄0, and K+, supporting the hyp...

Interaction of atomic hydrogen with monometallic Au(100), Cu(100), Pt(100) surfaces and surface of bimetallic Au@Cu(100), Au@Pt(100) overlayer systems: The role of magnetism

The spin-polarized calculations in generalized gradient approximation density–functional theory (GGA–DFT) have been used to show how the existence of second metals can modify the atomic hydrogen adsorption on Au (100), Cu (100), and Pt (100) surfaces. The computed adsorption energies for the atomic hydrogen adsorbed at the surface coverage of 0.125 ML (monolayer) for the monometallic Au (100), ...

Can spin-polarized photoemission measure spin properties in condensed matter?

Photoemitted electrons move in a vacuum; their quantum state can be completely characterized in terms of energy, momentum and spin polarization by spin-polarized photoemission experiments. A review article in this issue by Heinzmann and Dil (2012 J. Phys.: Condens. Matter 24 173001) considers whether the measured spin properties, i.e. the magnitude and direction of the spin polarization vector,...
