چکیده

•Ovarian cancer, particularly clear cell carcinoma, creates a hypercoagulable state.•This state can predispose to non-bacterial thrombotic endocarditis (NBTE).•NBTE can embolize and cause widespread arterial infarction.•NBTE is sometimes associated with a treatment refractory disseminated coagulopathy.•Surgical removal of the primary mass can sometimes reverse the coagulopathy.

Ovarian Clear Cell Carcinoma Presenting as Non-bacterial Thrombotic Endocarditis and Systemic Embolization

Non-bacterial thrombotic endocarditis (NBTE) is a rare manifestation of cancer-induced hypercoaguability. It most commonly occurs in association with mucin-producing adenocarcinomas and has rarely been described with ovarian clear cell carcinoma (OCCC). We report a case of NBTE with multi-organ embolic infarcts occurring in a patient with early stage clear cell ovarian cancer. A 56 years old Ca...

A Rare Case of Occipital Stroke as a Consequence of Nonbacterial Thrombotic Endocarditis in Ovarian Clear Cell Carcinoma: A Case Report

Hypercoagulability occurs in 15% of patients with malignancy and represents a clinical spectrum ranging from abnormal coagulation tests but no clinically evident thromboembolic disease, to arterial and venous thrombosis, migratory thrombophlebitis, nonbacterial thrombotic endocarditis (NBTE) and disseminated intravascular coagulation. The combination of increased procoagulant activity and decre...

Synchronous Ovarian and Endometrial Endometrioid Adenocarcinoma Presenting with Nonbacterial Thrombotic Endocarditis and Pulmonary Thromboembolism: Adenocarcinoma with Thrombotic Events

Introduction. Nonbacterial thrombotic endocarditis (NBTE) is a rare manifestation of hypercoagulability in patients with malignant neoplasms. Case Report. A fifty-six-year-old woman presented to the emergency service; the clinical workup revealed deep vein thrombosis in right leg and bilateral massive PTE. As the abdominal sections on the spiral CT revealed a giant pelvic mass of ovarian origin...

Primary hepatic neuroendocrine carcinoma with nonbacterial thrombotic endocarditis: a case report.

Nonbacterial thrombotic endocarditis (NBTE) is occasionally found in patients with carcinoma (lung or gastrointestinal) or debilitating diseases. Definite diagnosis of NBTE should be performed by autopsy. It is difficult to diagnose NBTE if patients have no clinical signs of thromboembolism. Here, we present a case of primary hepatic neuroendocrine carcinoma with NBTE as proven by autopsy.
